“a place for true relaxation”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

Stayed for 2 night in November at this lovely hotel. My husband and I were picked up by the free hotel shuttle from Odawara at11.30am. The shuttle service made the journey easy and pleasant, but has to be pre-booked. Check-in was a breeze and the counter staff spoke adequate English. We were pleasantly surprised as we were upgraded to a Junior Suite, with a large, clean and comfortable room, and a balcony facing the Lake Ashi.

As the restaurants in town closed early (about 5pm!!), we had our dinner at the hotel bar. It served very yummy pizza and duck-confit at very reasonable price. As it was Happy-hour time, the alcohol were at half-price, that was a nice bonus. We had a good rest that night after using the onsen, and the lack of wifi in the guest room did not bother us, as we were there to relax.

A bigger surprise came the next morning- when the morning fog lifted- Mt Fuji was right in front of our balcony! Simply majestic and breath-taking. Of course the breakfast was made more pleasant by the serenity of the area, and beautiful view of Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji.

We did some sight-seeing using the pirateship, cable cars, trams, etc, and were lamenting the lack of time to see more of Hakone. Would definitely return to explore the town better, and would stay at Hakone hotel again.

We stayed here for one night on a tour of Japan, this is not the most attractive looking hotel but it is in a fabulous place overlooking Lake Ashi. We were very fortunate to be allocated a suite which had a large bedroom area, lounge area, baloney overlooking the lake and a bathroom to die for.
There doesn't' seem to be much around the hotel so I don't think I would like to stay for more than a few days. Excellent breakfast.

Room Tip: I understand all rooms in the hotel face the lake

We stayed there for two nights (initially three but as we didn't like it we decided to move to Kyoto sooner) and let's say that we haven't been impressed by this hotel. Despite an excellent location and a pretty big room, all the rest was disappointing.

Staff at the reception barley speak english which is not uncommon in Japan but always make things a little bit more difficult.

The room was old and smell like it wasn't used since a few weeks. The beds were not confortable, in particular the mattress were way to old (e.g. and therefore soft) and we end up with huge back pain in the morning. Pillows were small, soft and...old. We did ask for extra ones but they never came. No internet in the room but a free wifi is available at the reception (e.g. use the wifi rather than the internet kiosk at 100 Yen for 10 minutes…). TV has only japanese channels.

The food at the hotel is extremely expensive! Do not eat there unless you have too! We end up spending more money for a two persons diner compare to a four persons diner in Tokyo in a luxury restaurant!

Overall its a huge disappointment, this place could be really nice with a quick make over of the rooms (e.g. change the colour of the carpet…this dark blue make the room looks even more sad and dark), add a few nice and comfortable chairs in front of the lake, get reasonable price for drinks and food and this could be a little piece of paradise!

Room Tip: Room 316 has a very limited view on the lake (e.g. actually you can see the pirate ship dock…and tha...

A wonderful resort like hotel near Lake Ashi, located 2 mins away from the last bus stop in Hakone. Direct buses available from Hakone-Yumoto / Odawara, takes around 40-50 mins to reach here. Great place to explore Lake Ashi and all the tourist places in Hakone Area including all ropeways, boat rides, cog wheel train, volcanic region in Owakudeni.

If you plan to visit Mount Fuji from this place in a day then it can be really challenging as the bus+train journey from Hakone to Fuji 5th Station might take more than 3 hours (one-side). With the availability of buses only from 6am until 7pm, it becomes difficult to manage this journey in a day.

The best way to explore Fuji region is to reach there directly from Tokyo Highway taking a 3 day pass. Spend one day in a Fuji Hotel and rest of the 2 days in Hakone area at this hotel.

Food options are limited and might have to rely on hotel restaurant during late night hours. Being a small town and remote area, it is suggested to be back at your hotel by 8pm and leave by the earliest bus/train to explore all attractions.

The rooms are very spacious - you'll never find such big rooms anywhere in Japan! Dont miss the public hot spring bath in the region.

Room Tip: Choose lake facing room. Might get a chance to look at Mount Fuji from your bed.

Hotel is located near the fabulous view of lake ashi, with direct room views of the lake and mt fuji, if you are lucky onto spot her on a clear day.

Love e spacious bathroom with great view of the lake. Service of staff is great.

Free wifi available only at the lobby, which is good enough for me to contact my friends

Room Tip: Ask for room with lake view. I got a corner room, that gets me close up to the lake and is quiet, pe...

You could call this hotel grand in many ways, especially from the standpoint of service, but at the same time one cannot escape the fact that this hotel was built many, many years ago and has not been necessarily updated for the modern times. Internet access only in the lobby. Bathroom used to be grand but it shows its age. Then the mattress was not of the best quality, quite uncomfortable to say the least. Mechanical key offered, no card key, one example only so keep your party together. Restaurant was on the expensive side, for example the breakfast buffet cost 2,300 yen, but at the same time it offered a superior variety and great service. You get what you're paying for. Dinner sets started at about 6,350 yen and up to over 11,000 yen though the presentation was truly great. This hotel may or may not fit your taste, depending on what you're looking for.

Having doing some research through the internet, i'd finally decided to stay in Hakone Hotel for my stopover during my Japan trip. It turns out to be a great choice.
Hakone hotel is located at the edge of Lake Ashi, where pirate-ship cruise make stopover at a next door pier, has it own bus-stop in front of the hotel, and in a clear day, you supposely could see the famous mount Fuji. Unfortunately, during my stay the weather was rainy, windy, and foggy which blocked all the great views, and suspended the pirate-ship cruise.
Beside the great location, the hotel also have large, spotless clean room and very comfortable bed, despite it relatively old fashined decor. It also has 2 restaurants (a japanese and western food restaurants), a hot bath, and a small pier to do some kayaking/watersport if the weather permits. Pricewise - it is relatively fair compared to some hotels i've checked. You could also request transport arrangement to/from the train station via the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 4th floor (top floor) facing the lake for a better view
