“Comfortable and lovely views.”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

We stayed here for one night as part of a tour of Japan. Our room was comfortable and had a well equipped bathroom. If the weather had been better I'm sure we would have enjoyed the lake view. The dinner arranged for our group was of good quality and well presented.

The outside of the building is rather like a concrete bunker but this all changes when you get inside.Room was luxurious comfortable sitting area overlooking the lake, the bathroom was cavernous and well appointed. The food was tasty and well cooked.on the downside the free wifi is only available in the lobby and the tea/coffee in the rooms are chargeable.

Room Tip: Ask for balcony room overlooking the lake

Location
It's my thrid time to Hakone and this is the best hotel I've ever stayed.
It's just next to the Lake Ashi pier in less than 5-min walk and it has a number of local restaurants and shops nearby so dining outside shouldn't be a problem (in winter, you need to come early and dine early as shops closed around 6pm).

Room
Lucky us. We are upgraded to lakeside view room for free. After checking in, it started to snow and last for a night. Once we wake up the next morning, the lawn area turn to a white snowy garden and with Mt. Fuji as a backdrop. It's a huge bonus for all of us.

Surroundings
There's a nice cafe at about 5-min walk away overlooking the huge Lake Ashi. Make sure you leave some time to drop by and enjoy a nice Cappuccino or hot chocolate and enjoying the snow show.

Breakfast
It's the best breakfast buffet ever in Japan. Do wake up early, eat slow, enjoy the view and the peaceful ambience.

Would recommend this to everyone for sure.

The selling point of this hotel is its view of Mt Fuji. It must be said though that not only does Mt Mikuni mostly obscure the lower reaches of Fuji from here (such that the classic outline of the mountain can only be imperfectly discerned) and that this is further than other resort areas such that Fuji appears smaller, but also that the management may be relying too much on this geography as opposed to making genuine efforts at hospitality. They adopted a lecturing tone, opined as to how superior their facilities were, made out as how they would normally demand a fee for responding to a special request, then were utterly unapologetic for leaving it unsatisfied. Brutalist building is in shockingly poor taste, out of touch with the surroundings and easily mistaken for an industrial facility. Interior spaces are oddly shaped and lack grace. The view from the room was incongruously marred by exposed concrete columns. Small public bath has no windows but an ugly concrete roof with a skylight. Restaurant has gastronomic aspirations but it falls short. Variation on salade lyonnaise was unsuccessful, beef not being a good match. Moreover, the wait staff made no inquiry as to how the beef should be cooked, then produced 2 servings cooked medium and a 3rd extra-rare. When asked to cook it more thoroughly they promptly did so but it was still only medium rare. Breakfast buffet average but mostly unimaginative. Poor value.

Nice hotel which is more traditional than contemporary. it is extremely well located directly on the lake with outstanding views. Rooms are of good size. Although a winter trip with a bit of snow gardens are nice and photo's of grounds in summer looked outstanding.

Food is pretty typical but it was good with a decent selection at breakfast.

At first, it may looked as if it's way out place, but actually, with the 3 days tourist pass, which includes unlimited rides on Tozan Buses, Cable cars, trains, trams, the pirate cruise... it all so sleek.

The Hotel offers free shuttle from Odawa station, so if you are not interested in scrolling all the scenic spots, you actually can enjoy a nice retreat at this hotel.

Without a doubt, the view of Mt. Fuji from the little pier of the hotel, which is actually at Lake Ashi was spectacular...

Don't miss the morning day break view of the lake, since it's a hot spring lake, you'll see the steam floats with mt fuji above...

History... it's a 90yrs old plus legacy... with lots of history... you'll discover the rooms are built with extra large sized deco... the door is tall, the toilet is rather huge in japanese standard.

It's the only few hotel that is right beside the Lake Ashi, and next to the pirate cruise pier.

The room is a bargain, but one thing must consider... the hotel restaurants are top class French and Japanese restaurant, expect to enjoy a feast, rather pricey...

Not the Japanese onsan(hot spring) style resort, but everything is so direct and simple, cause the view of the Mt.Fuji from this part of Lake Ashi is what it's all about.

The staff communicate well in english, friendly and helpful. Free wifi at lobby.

Stayed two nights... wished could stay longer...

Stayed for 2 night in November at this lovely hotel. My husband and I were picked up by the free hotel shuttle from Odawara at11.30am. The shuttle service made the journey easy and pleasant, but has to be pre-booked. Check-in was a breeze and the counter staff spoke adequate English. We were pleasantly surprised as we were upgraded to a Junior Suite, with a large, clean and comfortable room, and a balcony facing the Lake Ashi.

As the restaurants in town closed early (about 5pm!!), we had our dinner at the hotel bar. It served very yummy pizza and duck-confit at very reasonable price. As it was Happy-hour time, the alcohol were at half-price, that was a nice bonus. We had a good rest that night after using the onsen, and the lack of wifi in the guest room did not bother us, as we were there to relax.

A bigger surprise came the next morning- when the morning fog lifted- Mt Fuji was right in front of our balcony! Simply majestic and breath-taking. Of course the breakfast was made more pleasant by the serenity of the area, and beautiful view of Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji.

We did some sight-seeing using the pirateship, cable cars, trams, etc, and were lamenting the lack of time to see more of Hakone. Would definitely return to explore the town better, and would stay at Hakone hotel again.
