Nice room, lovely onsen!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 Oct 2019
Room was very nice with King-sized bed, not too common in Japan.
The selection and food at the breakfast buffet was good, although on our second morning we were in a ballroom type room, which wasn't the greatest setting.
We had two private kaiseki dinners with our travel group, which were good. There was some karaoke in the room next to us one evening, which was a bit irritating.
The onsen was the highlight here! The facilities are really very nice and the outdoor onsen is in a very pretty setting. Such a relaxing experience.
One thing I found odd was that there were no gardens or yard to enjoy outside.
Would definitely recommend!

We arrived, like most, to Gora by train. At the station, you can transfer very easily to Cable Car, or check hotel shuttle schedule. If you take the Cable Car, please pay attention which side you exit, there is no crossing. From Cable Car station there is ca 200 meter walk on very steep uphill.
Staff at reception greeted us warmly and checked us in. We received welcome drink coupons, which was nice touch. During our visit we noticed that each shift has an English speaker and other speak less, however everyone seem to understand English very well. Lobby has a small shop. I recommend to buy some Hakone & Gora locally made beer, either to drink or as a souvenir.
Our room was very spacious compared to other Japanese hotel rooms that we overnighted. There was nice tatami area and two beds, which were very comfortable. One cabinet hold the futons to sleep on the tatami. Room has a TV and refrigerator, also Jukatan and sandals are available. You can were those at all areas of the hotel, including the breakfast. Main problem in the room was, like in all hotels made in previous millennium, the lack of power sockets, that are easily accessible, or then they were well hidden for European way of thinking.
Bathroom was small, ready made unit with deep bath. This one had hooks available, which made it much more useful than compared previous bathroom in Kyoto. Amenities were Shiseido, soap, shampoo and conditioner in big dispenser, which is environmentally much better.
Breakfast was good, offering extensive Japanese buffet and good western style buffet too. Western style had bacon and scrambled eggs, most likely made from powder, and several types of bread. Topping options for the bread were slightly limited, several jams, but not much cheese and other salty. Also cold options were plenty with fruit and some yogurt and muesli style. Breakfast restaurant has a view to the outside pool, we were watching the cleaner robot working and sometimes getting stuck in the corner.
We didn't have a dinner here, if I understood the price correctly, it was quite high, but if it is as extensive as breakfast, it would offer reasonable value for the money. Read my other reviews for dinner in Gora. Just remember to plan your moving around, the walk from the Gora station is almost a mile, ca 1,5km and ascent 139m, 450ft.
The onsen bath is the thing why we visited Hakone and we were considering hotel where would have been own onsen in the room. However this hotel has really nice "Spa" area. First you sign into it and lady explains with English paper how to behave at onsen area. Men and women have separated areas totally. If you have tattoos, they will be covered with tape/plaster. So in case of having tattoos, consider hotel with private onsen. The hotel has two hot onsen pools, one outside and one inside and additionally cold dip-in pool. When laying in outside onsen, you can talk to other side, if you want to co-ordinate your onsen time with your spouse. There is small hot sauna, I would call German/Swedish style, hot and no water throwing.
Summary: Recommended. Very good hotel, located uphill. It offers good breakfast and shuttle. I have seen hotel name written both Resor Pia and Resorpia.

We stayed two nights whilst on an organised tour of Japan. The area was badly affected by the super typhoon Hagibis, so recovering from receiving some 37 inches of rain in 24 hrs! However the hotel delivered an excellent service with a wide ranging breakfast buffet as well as private buffet dining for the tour party. Located in a fairly hilly part of town, so not ideal if you are not too fit and wish to walk, but doable ... we walked to and from the art museum without any issues. But further jaunts require transport .....

Was here with a group booked by AJT travel agent..it was a luxury compared to mystays chain of hotels ...spacious rooms, ryokan type experience with low beds, beautiful views of the mountain from my window.
We enjoyed a typical kaiseki dinner with sake n great delicacies...
Last but not the least the onsen baths was such an experience...some even bathed 3 times ... unluckily it was a stay for only one night...
Great breakfast and a little store to buy some nice souvenirs.
Don't miss out on this great hotel if you visiting Hakone...a great experience...

Resorpia was quite a nice hotel, but we were let down by a few things.
We stayed here with our 5 y.o. son and didn't book the package including dinner as he's quite fussy. Dinner in the restaurant is quite expensive, and the earliest reservation they had was 8.30pm (not kid-friendly). There is a late night menu which looked ok, but again only available from 8.30. The only other option was to order bar food, which was really quite bad, small and expensive. There are no other eating places near the hotel. You can head back in towards Gora, which we did on our second night, but the cable car finishes around 7pm, and many restaurants shut early, so plan ahead.
My husband seemed to enjoy the onsen but he found it very hot and couldn't stay in for too long.
Our room was quite nice. We had one with tatami area, and the cupboard had 2 thin mattresses and sheets/pillows which can be laid on the floor. Our son enjoyed this as it was a bit of a novelty. The room was over-heated and we had to turn the air-con right down, only to have it turned up again when we were out the next day. The bathroom was a pre-fab capsule style one - small but a nice deep bath.
The hotel is right next to the cable car station, but beware the hill you have to drag your luggage up is very steep. The reception arrange for a transfer back to Gora station when we left.
All in all not a bad hotel, you just need to be aware of the limitations in terms of location & eating options.

Hotel up in the mountain, I love in the morning the air is so fresh. I was staying in the main wing. The rooms are big and spacious. Very clean, good house keeping. Public onsen is ok. Welcome drink are served too. Great service staff.
