One of the reasons so many travelers make the trip to this sulfur springs is to buy the black eggs so that they can add 7 years to their life. We aren't necessarily followers of this belief but made the all-day trek as part of the visitor/tourist experience. Visibility at the sulfur springs was initially poor when we arrived. However, the mist started to disappear and we gained a decent view of the mountain and valley before we left. The shops cater to tourists, selling everything and anything related to the black eggs. Our teenaged kids enjoyed the black egg novelty.

A visit here was interesting to see the sulphur and steam vents. A busy tourist area for locals & foreigners. You can buy you black eggs here.
Be careful if you are an asthmatic, depending on the wind, fumes are very strong at times. Land slides evident from recent high rainfalls. Alot of construction gear in place to stabalise the mountain.

The springs are cool but smells horribly since they're sulfur based. We were lucky and caught a glimpse of Fuji (at 9.15 in the morning). We didn't try the black eggs but they are popular here. Nice view of the valley below.

The Owaku-dani Valley and ALL of the Hakone-circuit is magical! The trip there, with multiple modes of transportation, is part of the adventure. I actually did the whole circuit two days in a row: the first day I had NO IDEA even where to LOOK for Mt. Fuji; the next day while in the ropeway tram I heard everyone gasp and there was the majestic mountain! It brought tears to my eyes and was one of the best days EVER.
The black eggs that you can purchase are given to you way too hot to peel and you stand around at the tables waiting for them to cool. Warm and perfect boiled eggs, a slight sulphur smell about, and a view like no other. What could be better . . . a moment I will always remember!
