“I'm so excited about this museum”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

A contemporary building in a rural area, at one with the nature around it. Inside, amazing works of art by famous artists. Really impressive collection. I would go back again, next time I'm in the area. Do not miss this museum.

“Great Museum”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

They had a temporary exhibit of Modigliani that was very good. The permanent collection was great. The restaurant was great and not too pricy. All around a good stop.

“The architecture of the museum itself is a piece of art”
Reviewed 7 February 2014

I like the use of glasses that builds the museum, which looks simplistic and modern. Big windows allow the natural view from outside be a part of the museum and add life to it.
Some exhibits of decorative arts, lamps and glasses of Art Nouveau style, are beautiful. And the special exhibition of Renoir's painting is also nice. But still, I'm most impressed by the architecture of the museum itself

“Eco friendly gallery”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

I was as impressed with the actual physical gallery as I was with the private collection it housed. We visited on wet weekday when there were few people to share the space which probably enhanced the experience. When you arrive ( by bus as we did) you are immediately aware of how the building itself blends in with the beautiful surroundings. Mountains and trees dominate your view as you walk down towards the entrance - rather than rise up the gallery seems to sink in to the foliage. Once inside the gallery, the quality of the facility is immediately obvious and the collection is actually icing on the cake of the architecture itself. Do yourself a favor and have a coffee in the cafe before you leave because the huge glass panels make you feel that you are in the heavily wooded areas around the gallery. Don't miss this!

“Amazing private collection”
Reviewed 29 September 2013 via mobile

The Pola collection is very well known especially for its French impressionist paintings. So when they come together with the National Museum of Western Art, you can expect an impressive exhibition on French landscapes. And this is what you get! Great pieces of Monet and friends, nicely presented in a beautiful museum. The museum is surrounded by the moutains which adds incredible nature views... A must see between two baths in Hakone.
