“Shrine to visit!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2014

We had a good walk on a rainy day, it felt so serene just walking around and listening to the rain. The shrine is surrounded by huge old trees..it felt so sacred being there at that particular moment.

“Most impressive Shrine that I've been to in Japan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

Hakone Shrine brought to me the extreme holly feelings. The way that leading to the shrine is the surrounding cedar trees, it is so tall and so virgin. I have visited many shrines including the todaiji temples in Nara but this one brings the best view and feelings. Definitely will come again

“See the Torii gate on the lake, and tall trees”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2014

I've visited Hakone Shrine several times and mostly enjoy the bright red Torii gate in the lake (good photo opportunity since you can stand down under it). The surrounding cedar trees are also amazingly tall and create a real sense of place as you walk up the many stairs to the top.

At the top, you can say a prayer at the shrine or just watch the many other visitors doing so. Coming back out from the shrine, I recommend to turn to the right after the first set of stairs going down, and take the smaller path winding through the trees rather than the main staircase down, just to get a different view and to see the small koi pond at the bottom.
