“Wonderful Stay”
Reviewed 19 June 2014 via mobile

I stayed for 4 nights from 8 Jun to 12 Jun in the KAI Immersion room which was really lovely. Dinners were excellent and breakfasts were also very good. The staff were very warm and friendly. All in all, an unforgettable and wonderful, experience. If there is any improvement needed, I would suggest some hooks in the bathroom to hang towels and clothes or a line to dry light washings.

An interesting experience. The rooms were traditional, with a a fantastic view. However the food was poor, particularly the breakfast. Usually we can find something to enjoy in a Japanese menu- this time we struggled. Certainly over priced. The onsen was lovely, with the view outside. There are separate male and female baths, where you do have to bathe naked. Overall poor value. We then moved onto the Hyatt, where there was a much wider selection of food. You can choose either a French menu or a Japanese menu. The location is also better as it is directly on the tourist circuit. The view from this hotel is probably even better and they offer a free pick up from the train station.

Just spend a night with my wife & 19 & 21 year old kids and had a great Japanese experience . The attention to small detail & the unbelievable warm & great service of all the staff has made it one of the highlights of our trip so far .
From the moment we were met with open umbrellas as we exited the taxi ( the lightest of drizzling rain) and our bags whisked inside & offered a welcoming drink & refresher towels , I knew we were in for a treat .
Our Hostess then presented the traditional Japanese rooms to us and they were faultless we there attention to detail & my 21year daughter appreciate getting a iPad with the room to watch here favourite series online after dinner .The traditional bathroom was fun , and the wooden bath was very comfortable and a very relaxing experience .
The room include dinner & breakfast and it was the best dinner so far on the trip .
I will post some photos of the menu & starter plates as they tasted fantastic & looked a work of art .
The room was organised in our package , as I asked our H.I.S travel agent that I wanted to stay somewhere special & memorable for our daughter's 21st Birthday , so I don't know the exact cost but it was well worth it for the great memories .
When we got there , they asked us to fill in a registration form and there was a question asking us 3 reasons for choosing the KAI Hakone . I wrote a 21st birthday and during dinner the waitress took a photo of us dining & presented the photo in a nice cover, 1/2 hour later with a special birthday dessert for my daughter ...unbelievable !!!
From organising the taxi in the morning & doors opening & 3 staff waving us goodbye as the taxi went up slowly the hill , it will be an experience long remembered after the cost is forgotten.

Room Tip: River facing & higher floors for better view

KAI Hakone is down off the Old Tokaido road in the valley of the Sugumogawa, with each unit offering a river view. On offer in our dining room is fresh Pacific seafood from nearby Odawara, combined with ingredients from the local Ashigara area. In the late 19th century, Hakone was one of the first resorts patronized by American and European residents of Japan, and in dining at KAI Hakone we recreate this early combination of Japanese and Western influences, tweaked here and there to suit modern tastes. ... more   less
