What a wonderful way to end our trip to Japan! We stayed two nights and I wish we could stay more.
The ryokan is located facing the mountains and the forest. The place is so peaceful that you feel relaxed the moment you step in.
Our room was amazing, with one of the most beautiful view I've ever seen and it had an ofuro in the balcony! What else could I want? Yes, there is more, no shoes policy and they provide you comfortable clothes so you don't even have to open your suitcase.
The staff was very attentive and kind.
The only thing I can criticize is that the room is too lightly due to the sunrise

We arrived at Hakone Ginyu for a one night stay and we were treated like royalty. The day we arrived, it had begun to rain but once inside the ryokan, we were treated to a quick check in and taken to a sofa area and given a warm pineapple milk drink. We were then taken to our room that was a traditional japanese room, very spacious and had a large living/sleeping area, robes for us to wear, a dining area, glass doors that opened up all the way onto a balcony with a loveseat sofa and a private hot tub, it was also connected to a shower area and the washroom.. The toilet was located in a separate area off the the hallway we entered through. It was explained to us how the public hot springs baths worked but after 5 mins there, we decided to head back and enjoy our awesome room and our view of the mountainside on our balcony hot tub. Dinner involved a traditional set course menu, although some of the items were kind of strange and not to our liking, it was definitely a culinary adventure that lasted over 2 hours. During dinner, some guys came in to set up our tatami mats and bedding and it was super comfy. For breakfast the next morning, we were given a choice of western or japanese menus and we tried one of each.. All the food was abundant and very yummy. Checkout was quick and they walked you right to the road.
One of the most relaxing and most wonderful experiences I've ever had. Don't think of the price per night as super steep and pass up this place. If you take into consideration, the set course dinner and breakfast they offer you, you nightly stay only comes to half that price per night.

Hakone Ginyu in Miyanoshita was a joy to visit. Dinner and breakfast was served in beautiful surroundings by a beautiful girl, on beautiful plates, presented beautifully and tasting very good indeed. The hot spring bath was so welcome and the infinity pool also a joy. Only downside: limited view of surrounding hills

Ginyu is gorgeous. The property is situated facing the mountains with both outdoor and indoor private onsen. It is a modern japanese ryokan though, so not as traditional as what you would expect. We stayed in a traditional ryokan in Kyoto and wanted a different experience in Hakone.

Being modern japanese, the cuisine is also modern japanese. Great experience overall and I only wish it is more afforable so that we can go back again and again!

Resort is very adult and quiet. We did not see any kids the time we were there. It is also located only a short 3 min walk from the Tozan rail station. You do not need a taxi ride at all if you can cope with your luggage.

Right from the moment you leave your car outside Ginyu Ryokan you enter another world and for non Japanese clients a somewhat mysterious world. The first surprise once you have entered the ryokan is the great views on the Hakone mountains and it feels like you are in the middle of a very abondant nature. The second surprise is the staff ,the service, the welcome drink, the 'warm welcome' in general...you have really entered another world.I would say that our room looked more at a japanese flat rather than at a hotel room;and then there was a superb terrace with an open air bath. The ideal place to relax. But the real surprise was the dinner in our room : beyond imagination in respect of presentation , quality , originality and freshness .We have hardly seen anything like this in our life and we have been to many wonderful places. Also the breakfast was absolutely great. We had opted for a western breakfast but it was served with several hints to the Japanese kitchen and culture. We have stayed here two nights but we wished that we could have stayed longer and we certainly do wish that many other people visiting Japan can share this unique experience. It is worth while the trip to Hakone.

Room Tip: All rooms have great views and terraces

We thought splurging on a night's stay at Hakone Ginyu would be a once-in-a-lifetime thing - staying here is not cheap - but after one night, we feel we could do it many more times.
Quite simply, this ryokan is amazing.
The moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. Staff were super attentive and warm, as are all the other Japanese staff at the hotels, but over here they go one level beyond.
The mountain view at the lobby is magnificent. It is exacly what you see in the photos in the hotel website.
At check-in, the staff asked us if there was anything we did not eat, so that they could customize our dinner and breakfast menu. They did not miss out a single detail.
Next, we were treated to a welcome drink, made up of soy milk, ginger and pineapple. It was delicious. When we were all relaxed and ready, the staff brought us down to our room and gave us a brief overview of the room and facilities, after which she offered us hot green tea in the dining area. The room we booked came with its own private indoor and outdoor hot baths, and it was bigger than what I had expected from looking at photos on the website. It was really huge, something like an apartment.
Dinner was served in our own rooms by a cheerful and friendly, young Japanese lady called Mimei. The food was amazing. Presentation was fantastic and it tasted as good as it looked. The sashimi was really fresh, and the japanese beef was melt-in-your-mouth fantastic. If we had any complaints, it was that they fed us too much!! My wife and I aren't dessert people, but it was so good that we finished everything.
After dinner we took a stroll around the hotel premises, then headed back to our room where we leisurely soaked in our own private hot spring.
The futon beds that the hotel staff prepared for us after we had our dinner were firm and comfortable but we screwed up the air-con setting and woke up in the middle of the night too warm.
Breakfast the next morning was again outstanding and like I said, the chef did not miss out a single detail on what my wife had said she didn't like to eat.
As we soaked in our hot spring a final time, we felt really sad to leave.
After checking-out, we left our luggage at the hotel so that we could do a short one-hour trail around the town of Miyanoshita, and Mimei-san walked us out the hotel and stood at the entrance and waved to us the entire time we were still within sight!!
Unfortunately it started to rain shortly after our walk, so we returned to the hotel where we waited for the rain to abate. And as a final kind gesture, one of the nice staff (think his name was Shiyoda) offered to send us to the train station in his car! We were really, really greatful (the walk up to the train station is short but is a rather steep upslope).
If I do have one complaint, it is that the entire hotel has been made very Bali-esque, perhaps too much so. All the hotel decor, and even the music in the lobby appears to be Balinese. One suggestion to the management might be to play some traditional Japanese folk instead... Nonetheless, the moment the hotel staff waited on you, you knew you were in a japanese ryokan because the Japanese, in my opinion, are the best when it comes to service.
This was the 4th hotel in our Japan trip and our second ryokan in Hakone. It was certainly the best and most memorable stay and worth every cent.

We stayed here for one night on a tour through Japan and everything was wonderful. We reserved a room with private hot spring and had complete privacy throughout our stay. The service was amazing and room was beautiful. The only issue we had was it was so isolated, we felt like we were in a ghost town. We liked the privacy, but after a couple hours would prefer to go somewhere with a little more action. No one was in the halls or at the bar or anything; it was just a bit odd for us.

Also, just a note - If you take public transportation it is quite complicated to get here. We took a bullet train, to a local train, to a bus, which dropped us off on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere and we can't read Japanese. My fiancé ended up running up the hill and finding it, but it was a bit scary standing on the side of the road when it was starting to snow :) Also one of the staff ran down the hill immediately and helped us with our bags – they were out of their way friendly all the time!
