Please believe in my words from one 39 yrs old woman who is the hot spring & hyatt resorts' biggest fans!
Japanese Cuisine is very nice and hospitality is best among the other hot spring hotels in Hakone area!
Enjoy your stay in Hakone and Hyatt Resorts & Spa! Mahalo!

We spent three days at this beautiful relaxing hotel after our two week tour of Japan. It is a perfect spot to. The hotel is located about 45 m from Odawara but really not that hard to get to. It is well located for the cable car, rope way and Lake cruise. It is also close to the Hakone open air museum which might be the most beautiful museum in the world. Even my teenage boys thought it was awesome.
The hotel has large rooms and a happy hour that provides free champagne, wine and juices that is a wonderful environment to kick back and relax and play some chess.
Most outstanding at this hotel is the service and really as all the hospitality in Japan is fabulous it is hard to stand out. However here they go even go further to make you feel special and relaxed.

We were there for 2 days 1 night as part of pre-booked trip around Japan in late April and I wish we had stayed there longer. The staff at the Hotel were very helpful and super nice. Our room was massive and beautiful and the facilities at the Hotel were top notch. They had a wood fire burning in the middle of foyer at night which was very cozy. I highly recommend eating at the French restaurant at the Hotel. The waiters were very accommodating when it came to food allergies and preferences. Only slight issue we had was trying to get to the hotel by using the various public transports recommended by our travel guide book - which took too long and was slightly confusing (if taking the cable car up the hill to get to the Hotel make sure to exit on the right side when facing up, not the left side, to walk to the hotel).

Room Tip: The hotel offers a free shuttle van to the train station at different set times throughout the day...

I only wish we could have stayed longer, one night was not enough to fully relax and appreciate the Japanese mountainside. After purchsing a 2 Day Hakone Free Pass at Shinjuku we took the Romance Car to Hakone station. We spent some time exploring Hakone and enjoyed some lunch jumping on the Hakone Tozan Railway for the trip to Gora where the hotel shuttle picked us up. A very easy trip as long as you have minimal luggage.

The free drinks for happy hour(s) in the afternoon were much appreciated as we secured a prime position by the fireplace. For dinner, the menus in both the French and Japanese restaurant looked great but after a few big meals out during our visit to Tokyo we decided to dine in the lounge bar instead. Even the hamburgers were gourmet with a French twist - delicious.

The rooms were large by Japanese standards with comfortable beds and a good sized bathroom and panoramic mountain views. There is not a lot to do around the hotel so it is definitely somewhere to relax and enjoy the mountainside fresh air.

The following morning we arranged for our luggage to be transported back down to Hakone and we continued the Hakone circuit by cable car, ropeway, boat and bus to end up back at Hakone pick up our luggage and hop back on the train back to Tokyo. We were lucky that we had a spectacularly clear day with amazing views of Mt Fuji and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

If you're looking for a short break from Tokyo I would highly recommend a stay at the Hakone Hyatt Regency while completing the Hakone circuit over a couple of days.

For those traveling to Hakone, be prepared to either pay massive prices (like your 5 star hotel) of circa 60,000 yen per night or pay low prices of 15,000 yen per night. There is literally nothing in between. Given that the town is strictly touristy - there is a dearth of shops/facilities except those at your hotel. Restaurants are only open for lunchtime and close for dinner at around 7pm. After 7pm there is nothing to do except stay in your hotel. If you don't have a car, you will be stranded in the middle of nowhere. If you encounter a rainy few days (as occurs during June/July), even the daytime entertainment of the ropeway/Lake Ashi/Mt Fuji becomes impractical.

This is why I recommend staying in the Hyatt if you do venture to Hakone. The facilities/rooms at this hotel are excellent as you would expect. There's 2 restaurants plus onsen/spa facilities. Free drinks (including alcohol) between 7-10am and 4-7pm so worthwhile for those who want to take advantage of that.

I ended up staying here as an emergency after erroneously booking a hotel that was 'cheap' but turned out to be very nasty (and I checked out after 30 minutes). Please don't make the same mistake - either stay here in comfortable surrounds here or don't bother. The Hyatt ticks off all the boxes for those who can afford it.

Very welcoming and helpful staff, good sized room (although some fittings just starting show signs of age/wear, but not off putting ). The Japanese restaurant was very good as was the Italian if a little less chi chi and pricey. Good range of breakfast fare. Very good happy hour too. Did not try onsen, not my thing, so cannot comment. Given that most hotels in the area are in a winding valley, I'm not sure that any location us better than any other.

We wondered into here , from a walk from Gora station. In fact, we had planned only 2 days in Hakone and this was day 2. After a cup of coffee here, we were hooked and came back the next day for one night....and what a glorious night it was.
The best room we have had in Japan. Generous, large balcony ,beautifully appointed ,wonderful mountain view and so,so ,so quiet.
Dinner last night was superb. Choice of French, western Japanese dishes, served with panache and style.
The walks around this area are a joy .No traffic, winding , interesting lanes and paths and challenging slopes.
There is a free shuttle to Gora but really, this is a destination in itself, when you want to get away from people and savour some free time.
For us , this is definitely one of those ah/ah moments.
