“Saving My Kawaguchiko-Hakone's trip!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2013

After being lost during the buses journey from Fuji-Kawaguchiko to Hakone ( we took 4 different buses in 4 different cities) This hotel saved our trip!

It is located Not far from the train station (hakone Yumoto station).. just cross the street (there's a big bridge with lift).. and another bridge over the river (good view!).. about 5-7 minutes from station. We carried our own luggages.

after the bridge turn right, and see the lift goes up directly to the hotel.

The room is the biggest we had in Japan! very big, quiet and panoramic! and the toilet is huge!
Got onsen (remember to wash your body first before using the hot pool)..

too bad the breakfast and the food is really really expensive...
but its okay for me, since there are plenty place to eat to choose near the train station. some more there are convenient stores (i forget the name, maybe its 7eleven or something) sell delicious cheap foods!

We love it! :)

When we checked in for 2 nites 14-16 October; we noticed more Cons than pros for this hotel.

1. Staff did not speak English well & their level of understanding what we were asking is not great for a so called 4-star hotel.
2. No WIFI in room & only available in the lobby but we found that you can also access it on 2nd floor outside their spa (much quieter & less people know about this).
3. No coffee or English tea supplied; only Japanese Green Tea
4. No bottled water & was told by staff for us to buy from vending machines
5. No laundry service.
6. Unable to get any English channels on tv; this was important as we were traveling during typhoon wipha which was heading to Hakone. So we had to ask the staff to check the weather report / situation for us.
7. Breakfast was not great at all but at least we got the scrambled eggs, sausages, toast; tea & coffee. Tea bags were available in the restaurant but when I asked the day we checked in, they said they only supply Green Tea.
8. Bathroom was like a caravan pre-fabricated room barely to fit a small bath-tub, toilet n basin which was hardly a foot between each.
9. Was told it cost 9000 JPY to have a higher floor room.

The Pros:

1. Hotel was most convenient; just 2mins walk from Yumoto-Hakone train station; down the stairs & across the bridge. This was important if you are lugging around bags; & we had only a hand-luggage on wheels.
2. Also the hub of Hakone with all the souvenir shops & more choices of food.
3. Bus stop just 2mins from hotel to travel to Moto-Hakone to take cruise to Mt Ashi & the ropeway.
4. Room was spacious & cleaned well.

Our advise, use the service to send your luggage forward to your next destination etc. No pics were taken cos we were so unimpressed .

I didn't acutally stay at this hotel and probably wouldn't choose or want to from now on.
I went to Hakone with my family during our summer holiday and after getting to Hakone
we all went and sat beside the beautiful river, which is very near the train station. This
was very nice and relaxing, but it was a very hot and sunny day, so we all decided to
go and "cool off" in the nearby Yumoto Fujiya Hotel's ground floor cafe, which a number
of my friends had told me served delicious deserts, which seemed like the perfect thing
to have to help us all cool down. I was shocked when I walked into the cafe and noticed
that it wasn't air-conditioned, which was unbelievable on such a hot day and it took us all
quite a long time to cool down naturally and I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone to go
there during the summer, even though the actual deserts were nice, although we would
have all enjoyed them a lot more if had been in an air-conditioned cafe, that's for sure!.
It certainly wasn't a good first impression of the hotel overall and I think the cafe in particular will probably start to lose money if it doesn't turn on the air-condtioning and put its customers
happiness and comfort first

Hotel requires renovation.
Rooms are small, typical Japanese standard size.
Breakfast is OK, offers both western and Japanese food. It gets crowded. They also have an option of Japanese only breakfast in a smaller facility.
Chinese restaurant was very bland.
Hakone Yumoto is a great location to leave your stuff and "do the loop". It is great because you do not have to transfer your stuff yet to another train and/or travel in a crowded bus to and from a hotel located elsewhere. Hakone Yumoto also has the best commerce ( sweets shop and restaurants included) in the entire Hakone area.

Service was great, the restaurant had great buffets for both breakfast and lunch, and the location was very convenient. The hotel even offered free coffee through most of the day in the hotel restaurant. As a caffeine addict, I took advantage of that frequently. The rooms were amazingly large by Japanese standards, even having both western beds in a normal size room and a Japanese style futon sleeping arrangement on tatami in a room-sized annex. Our room had a balcony, and the onsen not only had the traditional indoor and outdoor hot springs, but we could even reserve small family onsen rooms each day. The food was a perfect mix of western and Japanese, including the standard soft scrambled eggs that another reviewer referred to as "runny". For those who want their eggs cooked completely dry, this may seem runny, but every hotel that I have ever visited in years of traveling in Japan serves them the same way. When I am back in the U.S., it's really uneven, although usually buffet eggs have been sitting too long to be anything less than hard. I miss those "runny" eggs when I leave Japan. Of course, Japan is far more careful than the U.S. to avoid salmonella contamination in eggs, so it's much safer here to eat them less than dessicated. Another reviewer questioned cleanliness, having seen a spider and a cockroach. Although I saw neither, I wouldn't rate a hotel down for it, especially if the creature was a spider, which is hardly a health hazard. It was expensive, but no more than any similar Japanese hotels in resort areas. I would love to stay there again.

We stayed here last night. There were several groups of foreigners, mostly European. I know some of the staff speaks Japanese and overall they seem nice. The host at restaurant this morning was talking firmly to a Chinese family trying to interrupt him and seemed to have sneaked someone into breakfast. The hotel is right across the river from the station. Take an elevator to the top to the hotel if you come by train. Big lobby, two different wings. Restaurant, hot spring, massage are all on the second floor. The pool which closes at 5:00 (last entry is at 4:00 PM) is on the third floor. Nothing spectacular. The rooms are laid out nicely with robes for the hot spring. Bring your towel, but they also have towels at the entrance. Hot, hot, hot in the summer. Two inside and two outside hot spring plus a sauna. Do not get the reflexology/foot massage. It was not worth it as most of the time was spent massaging my leg. It was more like a foot and leg rub, not a massage. Breakfast is mostly Japanese food, but there is a decent "western" buffet with toast, eggs (runny), bacon, sausage, cereal ( only Frosted Flakes), juices and coffee. The fruit and yogurt are in the Japanese section. Check the prices before you go. One day before summer vacation officially started was ¥10,000 cheaper per night. There are a lot of hotels all in walking distance. Choose wisely.

This hotel is very conveniently located and provides good service and is clean but the staff was not very welcoming and only few spoke some English. There's only wifi in the lobby and the first day we were not even connect to that. Swimming pool closes at 4 pm, so no swimming after a bussy or warm daytrip. The sealing in our room was at one point only 185 centimeters high :-( a headache was the result. This hotel was by far the most expensive one we booked and is not worth this price. matrasses are also too hard
