If you are taking a cruise from Yokohama, this is the only hotel you should consider. You can walk to cruise port in 10 minutes along the sea front.
The hotel is 1st class, everything was perfect..I had a very nice double room overlooking the harbor, and I could see my ship pull in...cool.
Breakfast was very good, all staff spoke English.

Room Tip: wait till you check out the Japanese toilets

On the face of it there's not too much wrong with this hotel - but as they say: "it's the little things that make the difference. First off, most Brits who arribe here do so early in the morning because oft he flight times from London to Tokyo. The upshot was that there were literally 40 people waiting for hours in the hotel's reception area to check in. That would be understandable if the hotel was full and they were waiting for guests to check out and then clean the rooms but that certainly wasn't the case. It just struck me as a little petty. Breakfast is decent but they have this "small plate" fetish which is incredibly annoying. Trying to fit even an average size breakfast onto a bread plate is impossible - yes you can go back several times but it still wrangles and is totally unnecessary. The other big downside is that the hotel has no bar - I've always thought that the bar is the heart of a hotel and it desperately needs one. Otherwise, the rooms are a decent size and reasonable value in a very expensive part of the world. The Internet access is excellent too.

Room Tip: If you possibly can try and arrive after 2pm - otherwise you'll be sitting in reception like a lemon!

I recently had a French course menu at a wedding reception here, so assume the food & staff service review would be relevant to those offered at the hotel and its French restaurant, Escale.

The food and service were pretty good overall. We had a course including an app (quiche Lorraine), soup (creamy pumpkin), fish(perch/bass), beef and dessert. The only thing I didn't care for was a sauce over the beef called 'raifort', a horseradish based sauce. It was kinda weird... Other than that everything was very nice. A French red wine was also good (forgot the name!).

The hotel (and the French restaurant, too) has a wonderful ocean view and would be romantic for couples.

The hotel has been around since many years and is a landmark hotel as most taxi drivers do not need to look up the address. The name is enough. Its location across the park on the sea front makes it a desirable hotel where all you want to do is sit near the window and see the ships in the distance. The yokohama bridge is also a pretty sight to watch especially at night. Nice and comfortable beds, large bathrooms with modern fittings. Well maintained rooms that look ad good as new. Great location with most tourists spots in close proximity. Only problem was not having a convenience store I'm the vicinity . the famous Chinatown was behind the hotel and great place to walk anytime of the day. Overall nice and memorable stay.

We stayed at the Hotel Monterey as a final stop on our 2 week tour of Japan.
From the start this stay was going to be a problem.
As we arrived after 2 pm we expected the room to be available, it was not. After a 30 minute wait and a great bit of customer service provided by Rie Nakahama we went to the room. As we were a party of three adults we had a twin room with an additional rollaway bed. Unfortunately, the additional bed collapsed slightly injuring one our party.
We contacted Rie and explained the problem. She immediately came to the room to help resolve the problem, when became apparent it could not be solved she had us wait in the room until she found a new room, ensured it was in excellent condition and the bed had no problem. She then helped move our suit cases for us.
When we went to leave the hotel Rie went out of her way to ensure we knew where to go in Chinatown and how to take the metro to shopping.

If not for Rie's great customer service we would rate this hotel average but how can you fault a hotel that has such great staff?
