This new museum housing some important bonsai artworks is well worth a visit if in Omiya. A lot of money was spent by the city to procure the exhibition trees and to build this state of the art museum. It is impeccably neat and tidy. The displays give one a good understanding of the art of displaying bonsai. These displays also change so if you have been once you will most likely not see the same display the 2nd time. I am not quite sure why they do not allow photography in some areas outside the museum, but as they have a wonderful guide you should just get that as it also has a lot more information about bonsai in it. I would definitely go again.

Outside of Toyko(Omiya-Koen Station), there is a lovely museum dedicated to bonsai trees/plants. The inner portion of the museum has some lovely grand scale bonsai. There is information on the history on bonsai, how it is grown, and how it is judged to be of quality. I was glad the placards were in Japanese and English(many museums in Japan are not). Located outside area with a large terrace and bonsai as well. You are not allowed to photograph most of the plants. There is a really nice small gift shop. The surrounding areas has some bonsai nurseries and there you can purchase bonsai in a variety of prices(1,200 yen on up to 30,000 yen). I would bring friends here who love gardening and plants.

This very specialist museum is a treasure for bonsai enthusiasts, or those who simply wish to find out what it is all about. The indoor areas have beautiful displays of various bonsai forms, with well presented information in English. Our friendly guide gave us clear explanations about the bonsai specimens on display in traditional alcoves. The outside area is compact, with numerous bonsai "works of art", some may be photographed.
The museum website lists each of the catalogued bonsai, and indicates those bonsai which are currently on display. I was pleased to find the bonsai that I had seen in April, and what they looked like at other seasons. The museum is in an area of Omiya which has many bonsai nurseries nearby - so well worth a visit. See the website for details.
