Hoping to be the first westerner to write a review for Hana to Hana in English! Stayed at Hana to Hana with family and friends for 2 days- we came all the way from Seattle and Chicago. What a lovely, relaxing, Japanese style ryokan hotel this is. Tucked away in between the mountains and countryside. We took the Shonan Shinkansen line to Utsonomiya to meet some friends, then drove up to Hana to Hana, road is very similar to the drive to Hana (in Maui), windy, curvy and narrow, but scenery along the way is such a beautiful sight (very different for the hustle and bustle of Toyko).
We reserved a ryokan tatami style room with view of river, breathtaking view. As you begin your journey the staff takes care of everything for you, food is kaiseki style (multi course) - beware there is a lot of eating and relaxing. You can choose the package that includes meals (strongly recommend), dining is with your group and food is prepared with such detail and freshness. Very traditional Japanese taste and food, excellent food. Breakfast and dinner is included.
The onsen is relaxing, there are about 3-4 inside and outside women only onsens, all the amenities are included after ou soak, blow dryer, lotions, etc....
Great little gift shop for souvenirs as well.
Location is about 45mins - 1hr from Nikko world heritage - if you have a car it is definitely worth the drive.
After two days and a belly full of food we headed back to Shinjuku satisfied and amazed. Would definitely go back again.
