Traveled with family, 6 adults on our package tour in the middle of Apr 2014 along the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine route and landed at this hotel for a night. The Japanese style room is clean with Tatami flooring and is well prepared to receive its guest, from the fresh white towels, all toiletries, bedroom slippers, it was welcoming to us as we settled in to enjoy the Japanese way of life. The futon beds were prepared for us while we were out having dinner, everything works in the room, there is nothing more that you would have asked for. Good stay with wide spread of breakfast and dinner and charming Japanese style rooms for a change.

We were there for cherry blossom season in April. Nothing to do in the area. The town seemed to be closed down. The buffet breakfast/dinner was good with a lot of variety to choose from. The private onsen was great but they charged $30 for 45 minutes. We had a japanese style room that was spacious. The bed was a little uncomfortable and there was hair on the sheets:( The staff was very nice. Unfortunately for us they spoke very little english. We were trying to join a tour to see some sights in Nikko and they were unable to help us. No brochures in english. It was an hour train ride to get to Nikko. I would reccommend staying in Nikko if you want to do sight seeing. Overall the area was disappointing and the hotel is not equipted to handle foreign travelers

Room Tip: rooms on the south side are quieter. Although sleeping on the floor is great, I think they need to s...

My family with children went there during the early of Autumn. The hotel is well located with good river view. A bit costly but worth paying. Private onsen (with additional charge) is also a good choice. Foods are excellent. Game arcade made kids happy. Anyway, nothing to do much around the hotel.

Very quiet, very Japanese hotel. Perhaps a bit expensive but the meals were absolutely delicious; the breakfast buffet had everything you could wish for and more. I had a Japanese room and the beds were very comfortable. The yukattas, towels, everything they gave us was fresh and clean. The duvets were very warm and oh so soft. But the best were the hot baths downstairs; so relaxing!Worth the extra expense.

My room type in Ryokan-style was big. Could fit 2 adults+2children. Stuff in room is not new and a bit dusty but ok for me.
I had a great experience outdoor onsen alone while snowing ^^

The buffet is good with many choices of selection(even though they don't fill the food frequently).
Recommended Taraba crab leg, yakiniku beef and icecream.

Don't forget to visit souvenir shop and buy dried yuzu orange skin..so yummy and sweet :)

the rooms are average but have some nice views. The food is however the tour de force. I've never seen such a well stocked buffet with a great selection of food. The hotel has hundreds of rooms and is very busy, but seems to retain some ryokan status. Staff seem nice, but you don't see much of them nor do you really need to as everything in this hotel is optimised with true Japanese efficiency. Would go back.

I generally expect high levels of chintz from big hotels in onsen towns, but was pleasantly surprised here.

The rooms, lobby and bath were pretty much at the level you'd expect - clean, neat with nothing overly charming, but nothing that made me cringe.

The meal we had was a buffet for both breakfast and dinner, with good quality food at both meals.

The hotel itself is not too close to the station, requiring either a bus or taxi ride to get there, or about a 20 minute walk.
