“A wonderful stay at this charming little guest house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2013

I stayed at Tamura for two nights in the male dorm room. Junko is very sweet and kind and makes you feel at home. While not luxurious, Tamura has everything you need for the price. I imagine when at full occupancy the bathroom/shower situation could get a little tight but it was never a problem when I was there. Would recommend adding on breakfast for 300 yen. Nice way to start off the day as opposed to having to go out and search for something else. Great location on the edge of the commercial area and on the edge of the park. Will stay definitely stay again if I find myself back in Nara.

Our journey to Japan started here. WE arrived at 1030 pm in Nara from Kansai Airport. The directions given by Junko is quite clear. Same with the website. Junko is a very friendly hostess just like Tad her husband.

I had difficulty booking a place in Nara since its high season (October-November) when we went there. I was glad that I found the website of Guesthouse Tamura.

We stayed in the ryokan style room and we all loved the family room. The house is quiet at night. The room is very clean and the bathrooms and toilets too. Green teas and coffee are free. There are fruits on the table that are free for the guest to eat.

Our breakfast was typical Japanese breakfast but what makes it more special is that it is harvested from Tad's farm. Tad is a very nice person and can speak English really well. When we were back in the guest house, we would chat with them.

The location is central and walking distance to all attractions. We were fetched by our tour guide the following day for a very nice walk in Nara. The weather was great when we were in Nara but on our last day it started raining. I asked Junko where the nearest onsen bath is and they arranged it for us on our last day. They are a member of one Onsen nearby their place (about 10-15 minutes by car). They have coupons and they let us use two coupons I think. Tad also went with us. Before we left Junko gave little souvenirs to my children which they really loved. Its a very sweet gesture. And because it was raining, Tad dropped us off to the Nara train station.

I really fell in love with Japan and I would love to go back. If Nara happens to be a part of our itinerary, I will definitely book again at guest house tamura. Not only is the place a real gem but the owners are very friendly. One of the many people we will remember from Japan.

This small guesthouse is 100 years old, and was the home of the owner's grandmother. The hosts, Tad and Junko, really made us feel welcome, nothing was too much trouble for them. The house itself gives you an excellent feel for historic Japanese living, and the rooms are very clean and safe.

It is perfectly located for the park, and the restaurants and shops.

If you are looking for something traditional in Nara, I can strongly recommend this little gem.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Kaki room - very comfortable and quiet.

This is a real classical house located in the middle of Nara downtown. Tatami rooms are clean and comfortable with air conditioners. The bath (ofuro) is the same as you see in a regular Japanese homes. The hostess Junko is very kind to tell you everything she knows about Nara and japan. The breakfast she prepares is a real homemade; materials are from her husband's farms neareby. Really delicious. Yes, this is one of the real gems of Japanese authentic houses.

Room Tip: Bring your pajamas with you.
