Nara is a great day trip from Osaka of Kyoto, with many of its attraction clustered near together. One of the main attraction of Nara for me and my partner would be the many deers that roam around the park. Do purchase some of the deer cracker, known as Senbei, which are available at 160 yens at the various parts of the park. Cheap thrill waving the biscuit and getting the deer to bow, but it was pretty enjoyable nonetheless.

Nara is a beautiful park and only 1 hour from kyoto. My husband, myself and our 3 college kids had a wonderful tour guide show us around. It's very unusual having deer walking around and coming up to you. Keep in mind that they can bite and become aggressive. The deer we saw were friendly but one did come up to my son and start biting his jeans. They will follow you more if you feed them the deer crackers. I think it's best to not feed them, unless you are adventurous .

i went there and took a train from osaka because it is pretty close with osaka. at the first time, i thought it would be nothing there except the temple. but i was really lucky since it was summer and they have deers during summer.
i was so excited since it was the first time i saw deers in my life. haha.. LOL
very cute place, u can see deers outside the temple and feed them if you want to.
basically the deers eat everything, but if you wanna buy some foods for them, they also sell it around nara park.

worth visiting ! :)

As many other reviewers have mentioned, Nara is a great day trip from either Osaka or Kyoto; it's beautiful and all the main sites are within walking distance. Make sure you stop and feed a few of the hundreds of wild deer roaming the park. Deer crackers, senbei, are for sale all over the park for 150 yen for a small stack. Once you have the crackers, the deer may swarm you, so be prepared. Some of the deer will even bow at you in an effort to get you to feed them. It's lots of fun, but be careful as some of the deer can be a little aggressive.

The park itself is free, although many of the attractions in it (Todaiji, Kasuga Shrine, etc.) have admission fees. From Osaka, ride the Kintetsu Nara Line from Osakananba to Kintetsunara; it takes about 40 minutes. (There are two main train stations in Nara, the JR Station and the Kintetsu Station. The Kintetsu station is much closer to the park and the other main sites in the city. As you exit the station, there is a visitors center on your right where you can get maps and ask questions. The staff there speak excellent English and are incredibly nice and helpful.)

A very big place full of temples and gardens. Highlight of this place is feeding of the deers. They were so adorable.
