“Scenic and tranquil”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

Its serene and in the lap of nature. One has to walk some 200 steps to reach this Temple which is on a hill top. The golden Budha statue is made like an Indian Goddess with lots of hands and ornaments. The Cherry Blossom Trees give this temple its beauty. Beautiful and a must visit.

“Pleasant place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2012

There is a JR station very close to this temple, its also served by buses from Wakayama JR to Wakayama Marina City. The location is not close to The city center but still I found worth visiting. I spent an hour there. You can buy the entrance tickets with or without a tour of the Golden Buddha. I would recommend paying the little bit extra to see the Buddha as well which is housed completely inside a tower. The whole temple is halfway up a hill, with a good view of the city. A very nice lady took my ticket and proceeded to give me a 5 min talk in Japanese about the Buddha, although she knew I had no idea what she was saying, she still politely continued.

The temple is just opposite the Buddha and you can donate 100Yen and write your wish on a wooden spoon to leave there at the temple. I would recommend planning your return train journey before you go in, so you don't just miss it and spend an hour at the station like I did. Very pleasant temple and does not need more than an hour there.
