Richmond Hotel Fukuoka Tenjin

I travel on business frequently in Japan and on a modest budget. Stayed two nights for business at The Richmond Hotel Fukuoka Tenjin and will do so again. Took a non-smoking corner queen room 12,000 yen (with breakfast) and will request that next time as well. Several things I can recommend about this place:
1. Fast Check-in; don't let the automated key card despenser fool you, the service at the front is personal and it makes Check out swift as well.
2. You walk into the room and the rooms hall is wide and welcoming. That's rare even in this grade of hotel in Japan. Plenty of room for me and my bags to get in without a contortion act.
3. The room is fully loaded. A charger for every kind of phone and smart phone, and an iPod dock speaker. A huge TV (maybe too big?) Iron, and room humidifier ( must in winter). Hot water pot, fridge, etc.
4. EASY TO USE air-conditioning. If you stay in Japan's hotels you know this can be a big problem.
5. Great location in Tenjin for station and area dining. An easy walk to the Maizuru area and the Yatai food stalls in Nakasu as well. Just pop out of the hotel for a whole range of coffee houses, casual and fine dining. Two car rental agencies across the street
6. A very nice in hotel restaurant for breakfast (recommend) and I noticed it was packed in the evening too.
For this grade of hotel it is the best I have experienced.

Excellent hotel in a very nice city. Excellent location. Very clean room. Friendly staff. Great amenities. Simple and spacious lobby. Pajamas, slippers provided. No room cleaning option is good. Comfortable bed and pillows. Good air-con. Coffee, tea and water provided. Small fridge okay, but would be better and nicer if colder. WIll receommend this hotel to everyone. Although could be better with English-language TV channels like CNN, BBC etc. High-Def TV is fantastic (47-inch for twin room). Single room too small. But twin room that I stayed was fine. Free WiFi is great. Like ice machine and laundry room. McDonalds, Starbucks and Sunkus next door very convenient for breakfast. BiC Camera right behind hotel is great for walking around after department stores close at 8pm. Mitsukoshi, Daimaru, Iwataya, Solaria, Parco and Tenjin station all within 10-15 minute walk. From airport to hotel in 30 minutes. Free WiFi in Tenjin Chikagai and in subway. Taxi easy to find. Wide and clean sidewalk. Several Yatai near hotel for easy and quick meals at night. Plenty of places to eat. Food sections in nearby department stores are must see. What more can anyone ask for? Will definitely stay here again, no doubt about it.

not for that price. but that's something one could say generally about many Japanese hotels, being used to other Asian countries. as it is with other hotels, this one has seen it's best days a while ago. however, the rooms are large, the service is excellent and the room service food is probably the best i ever had - staying 60% of my life in hotels. big plus.

BUT there's no WiFi - I mean come on, it's not 1996 anymore. also, you have to call reception every day if you want your LAN to be activated.

room is ok, as stated before, similar to many hotels in Japan but not on the level of e.g. China, Singapore, Hong Kong (some), Korea etc. where you can get modern, perfect quality for reasonable prices.

Location, location, location.

You will never run out of places to shop in Tenjin with Loft just next to the hotel and the Tenjin Underground Mall a mere 5 minutes away. There is a Matsumoto Kiyoshi when you come down the stairs from Richmond Hotel and numerous malls are connected to the underground pedestrain walkway. Mitsukoshi, Solaria Stage, Solaria Plaza, Daimaru, Tenjin Core, Tenjin Verve are some of the malls that you can access from the underground mall. Most of these malls and shops close at 8pm and you can head to Bic Camera which closes slightly later.

There is a Lawson convenience store if you are returning to the hotel via the underground mall. Another small convenience store is also along the same street as Loft and there is a large 7-11 across the street from the hotel.

If you are headed to Tosu Premium Outlet, you can take the Nishitetsu Line which is the line closest to the hotel. Alight at Ogori Station and there is a bus that brings you to the Tosu Premium Outlet.

The beds in the hotel are comfortable and each room has a air humidifier which is thoughtful. I would love the hotel to have more staff speaking English as communication can be challenging at times.

I stayed with my husband & 1 year old child from 25-Aug to 27-Aug. We took the double bed, corner room, which was slightly more spacious (but still quite small of course).

Location of the hotel is good - 5 minutes walk to Tenjin Minami-station, right next to LOFT, 5-10 minutes walk to daimaru, 5 minutes walk from a starbucks, 2 convenience stores and the electronics store (bic camera) is just behind the hotel. The main shopping street is only a 10-15 minutes walk away, with the Apple store, forever 21/h&M, and the ramen / gyoza restaurants as well. Canal city is a good shopping complex for families as there is a whole floor selling kids clothing and items. This is about 20 minutes slow walk away.

The hotel provides walking maps to all the famous ramen, gyoza restaurants, bars, etc at the 1st floor lobby. They also provide free Japanese newspapers every morning. When it was raining, we borrowed umbrellas from the reception.

There is free wifi throughout the hotel, no passwords required.

The hotel restaurant (Yokohai) is also quite a good place for lunch; with pasta set meals at around 1000 yen.

I would recommend this hotel to stay at if in Fukuoka. The Tenjin area is a very lively area compared to the Hakata station area.

The location was excellent just off the Tenjin Minami stop on the bus from Hakata station and by the airport train line. About a 15 min walk to Canal City.
The staff was very helpful with directions and super polite at check-in. Ask for a map that has Ippudo and Ichicran labeled!
The room has wifi and is small (which is common in business hotels), clean, and nicely furnished.
The restaurant has a good breakfast buffet.

I stayed at this Richmond Hotel for 2 nights (3-5 August 2013) and I will never be disappoint to stay at this hotel. My room is spotless (either room size is small, but it is functional). Location is great as you can walk 5 mins to Subway Station (Tenjin Station) and lots of shopping and eatery in the area.
I would recommend my friends to stay there and also I will be happy to stay there in my next visit to Fukuoka.
