While it is something you can look at and admire very quickly, you will never forget it. Grand structures, lovely gardens and interiors, and oh yeah, a big Buddah statue that is a sight to behold (no photos sadly) so again a very quick thing to see but very worth it and close to Hakata Station

This Buddhist temple of the Shingon school is more than 1200 years old and very impressive. More recent (1988) is the giant wooden Buddha it houses (no fotos inside!) which is approx. 11 meters in height and weighs 30 tons. The beautiful pagoda (see foto) was erected to commemorate the 1200th anniversary of the temple's founding.
It is conveniently located for to reach by public transport as the main gate is right next to the subway station.

We nearly missed the temple but when you see the bright orange/read pagoda with the golden tip you know you have reached the Tochoji Temple. The temple ground is beautiful and you could explore it in leisure. We again almost miss the Wooden Buddha because the signage wasn't very clear and we don't read Japanese. The Wooden Buddha is in the modern building just next to the temple on the 2nd floor. We don't see any lift facility so not too sure if wheel-chair access is possible.

The temple and temple grounds are very beautiful. Lots of photo opportunities. There is a nice pagoda on the grounds. History stretches back over 1,200 years to early Buddhism brought over from Tang era China. Features the largest Wooden Buddha in Japan. Completed in 1992. 3 blocks from Dormy Inn Gion. Ice cream shop next door also very nice and worth a stop.
