My Japanese hosts took me to Essence during a recent visit to Fukuoka. Coming from New Orleans, and having spent a lot of time in France, my expectations were not high. However, I was incredibly impressed by the wonderful lunch. The Japanese chef had spent several years in Europe, and the exposure to that cuisine obviously paid off. Although some of the food was non-European, the taste and presentation were highly influenced by his experiences. This was one of the best French meals I've ever had. If you are in the Fukuoka area, you shouldn't miss this delightful restaurant.
