Nice lobby but don’t expect much once you passed that.

Everything about the hotel from the rooms, the spa, to the services are all time trapped in the 80s.

Service was incredibly Japanese style inflexibility, they even refused to give me vinegar for my salad without some bargaining, until I told them it was ridiculous for them to tell me a restaurant doesn’t have vinegar. Remind me of the days when Japanese restaurants refused to even put dressing or sauce on the side. But fortunately most Japanese has moved on and adapt to a more global society.

Breakfast buffet was average but the salad was actually surprisingly fresh and tasty.

We chose this hotel because it’s the last leg of our trip and we want everything to be painless and so great that we won’t want to leave the hotel. But that was not the case.

Customer service: HORRIFYING for USD 250 a night

We arrived at 2:45pm and nobody was at the front of the hotel and it took 5 mins to have anyone coming out to greet us, after us yelling for hello and thinking that we were in ghost town.

We thought that we are just slightly early to check in, but their check in time is at 5pm!!!

Instead of offering to check any rooms are available for us, she showed us the spa package (REALLY?!!). We said that we’ll park our luggage and head into town. When she went to park our luggage she came back out and conveniently said, “you are so lucky!! My manager said that we have 1 room available for early check in!” Seriously?!! It’s universal hotel basic customer service to offer that. Especially at this price point!

Our room’s city view is blocked by some trees and branches that almost looked perfectly not trimmed so they can have higher price point for room with views.

We were asked to park our keys at front desk before we leave the hotel, so we did. Not a good idea!! When we came back at 11pm, nobody was at front desk again. My bf and I split and go into different rooms to finally find help to give us our key back.

Temperature was 16-21 degrees celcius. The room was so hot with their central heating. There were no cool air option at all and we were sweating. When we called front desk, the same woman brought a fan to us and asking why we need it.

We were trying to keep our calm explaining how bad her fake attitude was towards the early check in and she said the style of the hotel management is traditional. We asked her to reflect to her management how bad of stay we have been having just within 6 hours.

Nothing happened of course. The woman apologised to us separately when we were leaving to fill the space with words while we were waiting for our taxi to the airport.

Location: Apparently they have a shuttle, it’s our vacation and we are the free birds traveller type. Instead, we walked everyday to Sakurazaka station to go to town and back. For this price point and type of service, it would be much better to stay in down town.

A hotel that does not worth your money, frustration, and time. Go somewhere else!!!

Hotel is not too far from Hakata station so we go there by Taxi because it is on the mountain in Fukuoka. Hotel looks cozy and relax and also nice panorama view. Staffs always smile, friend and service mind. Hotel will give pajamas after you check in, so you can choose any colour you like. We booked room Ryokan style with full facilities and get panoramic view from room. There are On-Sen & Sauna, Bar and restaurant. Recommend this hotel for relax & on-sen.

After a trip to Nagasaki, we were back in Fukuoka for a night before heading back to Hong Kong. Agora Fukuoka Hilltop Hotel is not located in the town center, but is accessible via taxi, bus, or the complimentary hotel shuttle, which runs between Hakata station and the hotel (roughly 2 times per hour). You can check their website for the schedule of the hotel shuttle. For those driving, parking is free of charge.

When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the hotel staff. They also probably figured from the reservation that we were Chinese, and had a Chinese-speaking staff help us with our check-in. Hot tea was served while they arranged the keys, and they also let us choose what color yukata we wanted (which can be worn in the hotel premises and for the hot bath). Once everything was settled, the staff took us to our room and explained the rather unusual layout of the hotel. The lobby is located on the fourth floor, while the hotel rooms are on the first, second, or sixth floor. They have both western rooms and Japanese tatami style rooms. We also tried out the hot bath, which is free for guests. The hot bath is open from 6:30am to midnight. There are lockers and towels, and your usual amenities there. We went quite late, around 11pm, and it was relatively empty.

All in all we were quite happy with the hotel. The room was spacious and clean, futons were very comfortable, and staff were friendly and polite. The slight letdown was that we had emailed the hotel twice before arriving to ask about parking arrangements and whether they could help us make dinner reservations. Both emails were not responded to. Other than that, we enjoyed our short stay and would recommend Agora Fukuoka to others if they don't mind the slight distance from the town center.
