Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel
Ranked #23 of 190 Hotels / Ryokan in Fukuoka
Certificate of Excellence

If new, this hotel would be a great retro hotel. But it's not new and the retro features are a little incongruous – graduated colour tiles in the bathroom from fawn at the top to pink at the bottom; a distinct lack of suitable device charging points; weird old-fashioned radio and CD connections; and one of the lifts was out of action. However it is next to the Tenjin Railway station, above a huge mall with hundreds of shops and restaurants, and in pretty much the centre of Fukuoka.
This hotel had the greatest collection of instructions for using the room that I have ever seen – most of which were incomprehensible. That said, it took me half an hour to figure out how to flush the toilet!
The nearby subway is easy to navigate with clear instructions on fares and directions. The ferry terminal and the Shinkasen station are each about 1500 Yen by taxi away and day trips to other parts of Kyushu are easy to do. A great entry point for Japan.

We are glad you have staying in our hotel.
To know that you were in trouble to work to flush the toilet, we were sorry.
And the traffic there is very convenient to our hotel.
Please stay at our hotel when you comes to Fukuoka.

This was the third times we used this hotel in the past few years. It is strongly recommended as
their rooms are great with very friendly and helpful staff. Location wise, this is the best in Fukuoka as it is near to subway/railway stations, shopping and restaurants". There is also a choice of smoking and non-smoking rooms.

Room Tip: rooms on higher floors provide good view if the city

The Solaria is probably the best located 4 star hotel in the city giving you direct access to the main shopping, food and transport links. The hotel is an imposing block, but the rooms are nice, especially the larger ones on the upper floors. Breakfast is good and the bar on the top floor in the evening is also a nice place to hang out.

On paper and on the map, this is a very well located hotel with nearby Shopping Centres, small shop outlets and MRT and bus stations.

However, on arrival we found that the tour bus was not allowed to park on the road beside the hotel. But in order to facilitate us taking our luggage to the hotel reception, the bus stopped along side the hotel entrance and we went into without walking too far. The next occasion when the bus stopped was rather far away but as it was after dinner, we could consider it as an after-dinner exercise.

Daimaru was just a few blocks away and many of us went to this big shopping centre which has spreaded its wings to Singapore many years back. Before we could finish browing at the third level, it was already 8 pm and the shopping centre was closing!

So we returned to our hotel. We found beside the hotel was also a shopping complex - Solaria Plaza....apparel shops, restaurants, a movie theater Solaria Cinema and fitness gym. We were rather tired after a day of tour and we went back to our room, which was big, comfortable to sleep and affords a scenic view.

The plus point of this hotel is the sky-lounge, located at the 17th storey. Nice views and nice food. We took a good breakfast two mornings and we were impressed with the good quality food. Because of this, the waiters/waitress insisted on collecting our breakfast coupons!

The hotel receptionists, mostly males, are very helpful. If we want to find a location, the receptionist will produce a map and indicate to you the location. With limited literacy in English, the receptionist has to repeat his words and gesticulated to make us understand. One of them even out of the way, out the hotel to the street and point to me the direction of my destination.

I stayed at Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel on October 20th. The location was great, room was very clean and breakfast was quite ok. But compared with the price, the atmosphere and furniture of the room, restaurant, bar and lobby look old and unsophisticated. You could feel that you spent the night in a hotel away from center of a city. The breakfast was eatable, as I love Japanese food very much, but was not that great, but quite simple.

In brief, it's a good place but not good enough for the price.

I booked a Twin Sharing room with breakfast at 17,000 JPY. I paid a high price for its location. The hotel is in the heart of the shopping & dining area in Tenjin, Fukuoka. There's also a very long underground shopping arcarde right next to the hotel. The interior of Solaria Nishitetsu was quite dated but the room was spacious. I could open up two luggages in the room and the hotel also provided free internet access. The breakfast was good and must try the Japanese bacon.

What a disappointing experience. I chose to stay here because they had a swimming pool, a sauna and sports facilities. I could not stay there much because such facilities are not for the hotel residents but for the locals and you are treated as a gooseberry. The swimming pool is too shallow so you cannot breast stroke (I nearly lost my toe nails). Their sauna is occupied by noisy local women who want to control the temperature and the atmosphere so you cannot sit there if you want to be quiet. The staff there do not care whether hotel residents are enjoying or not because it is not their priority. Hotel room seem good to start with but you will notice the edges of the room being dusty and the bathroom is not really cleaned well. Breakfast was good but I had better breakfast for less price at other hotels. So, this hotel is for people who have more money than sense.
