“A quiet railway station hotel”
Reviewed 30 August 2013 via mobile

The JR hotel is ideally located adjacent to the Kagoshima Chuo train station - the entrance is both from the street behind station and inside the station.
The rooms are fairly large and modern. the hotel is fairly quiet, you hear no trains from downstairs. The staff are friendly although their knowledge of English is rather limited.
The breakfast is mainly Japanese and not really good value - there are many nicer places in and around the station to have breakfast.

Having stayed at nine or ten different hotels all over Japan this past month, this one stood out. The room was bigger, the furnishings more upscale, and the shower and toilet fixtures were the same as the ones in my apartment in Tokyo, making them several orders of magnitude better than what you typically get in a non-western hotel in Japan.

This hotel is (not surprising, given the name) attached to the train station, which is an excellent location for getting transportation, with bus terminals and taxi stands both in front of the hotel, and on the other side of the tracks (which you get to via an underground passageway through the basement of a department store, next to the hotel's entrance), where you can also get the tram. It is a little far from the main shopping/eating area, which is about 15-20 minutes on foot, or 4-5 tram stops (walk, the tram is packed at meal times).

Typical western complaints about Japanese hotels....hmm. Well, they don't really apply here, at least compared to the norm in Japan. The bed is more comfortable. They give you both kinds of pillow. The shower head is at least 25cm/10" higher than the norm, and the rim of the tub lower (so you don't have to duck and hurdle at the same time). And there's space to line your luggage against the wall and still walk between the bags and the bed. And check in/out is in at 2, out at 11, far more generous than I'm used to (4 and 10).

There are a few quirks. I had to go up one elevator to the second floor, then cross the lobby (getting keigo-ed the whole way by the entire staff...awkward) to a different elevator, to get up to my room, you guessed it, on the third floor. In spite of that...they still make you use your room key to unlock the elevator!

Anyway, it's a great hotel for the price.

Room Tip: If you have a choice, go for the north tower. The south tower's elevator opens, on the first fl...

Stayed here for 2 weeks. The rooms are small but very comfortable and clean. The only downside is that the tv channels are all In Japanese. Apart from that, as of everything in Japan, everything in the hotel is in good condition. The bed is divine and internet cable is available in all the rooms.

The bathroom however lack of cotton buds and wools but the hairdryer is most helpful especially in this winter season.

JR Hotel Kagoshima is located at a strategic location - right next to the JR Train Station. Basically if you want to take the bullet train Shikansen to Tokyo, you could! But it takes 7 hours tho. Because of the location of the hotel, it is easy for me to get around, travel and find food. There's a family mart that opens 24 hours just outside the hotel and connected to the hotel is Amu Plaza - more shopping.

Overall, if I ever were to visit Kagoshima again, it is most definite that I'd stay in JR Hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west wings are better and safer.

this hotel is located inside of JR Station, so convenient! easiest access to JR, Shinkansen, Buses, and Tram.
staff are polite and helpful. free internet in guest rooms, though NO WIFI. i really don't get it how come most of the japanese hotels do not provide wifi services since nowadays most of the people carry smart phones, and wifi is so essential.

With the new opening of Kyushu Shinkansen,JR Kagoshima Chuo has been fully renovated. This hotel was newly opened not long ago. Easy access after exit from Shinkansen,it is conveniently located near the omiyage market where you can find lots of Kyushu delights. The area were bustling, surrounded with lots of restauarant, shops and tourist information counter.
The hotel lobby was spacious and new. There is even a small smoking room for smoker next to the lifts, staffs were helpful and friendly although they don't speak much English.
I booked a New Wing Business semi double room with breakfast at the rate of 10600 Yen for one night. The room was compact, modern, everything were brand new and came with a HP all in one computer and printer and of course with free internet access.Everything was perfect even the room was small but very comfortable.I had a very good sleep at night.Room was located at level 6 facing the JR station.Even the bath room was a bit spacious compare to other hotel in JP.
The buffet restaurant was located at level 1,not much seats provided, whole area look "squeezing". I got to queue for abt 10mins before I got a seat.Variety of dishes was limited, dishes finished very fast and take time for staff to replenish but overall still okay.
I loved this hotel due to it location and free computer (with internet access), I spent by whole day surfing the internet at a fast speed. I highly recommended this hotel to those who wish to have a short trip to Kagoshima as is great in value.

Room Tip: Request room at New Wing Business room which is new and modern.

We arrived in this hotel in the evening and we have been surprised pleasantly to find that the entrance was inside the railway station!!Lots of restaurants inside the station itself and near by Plaza shopping center. Cannot be closer. The staff speaks litle english but in the basics are OK.
The rooms are small but if you ask for twin room with two separate beds (which are not offered in the internet booking ), than by paying a small surcharge you get a normal room.
Breakfast 800 Yen extra. Buffet. Very good value.
Kagoshima city is not that interesting and Sakurajima Island and volcano neither. Everything is far . you cannot go close to the craters. Mild interest, but now the Shinkashen line finished and is a temptation to reach the southernmost point with bulet train.

Room Tip: ask for tle rooms with two separate beds. the so called "small double" are VERY SMALL!!

With the new Kyushu Shinkansen in operation, access to Kyushu has dramatically improved and that's a very welcome thing. The closest hotel to JR Kagoshima Chuo Station (because it is part of it !) is this hotel and it's a good option if you are not staying in the city for very long.
Clean, modern enough and functional. Only criticism is that the lifts are small and the layout for the restaurant is a bit confusing but I'd stay there again if I was in Kagoshima. They had free internet access which was a major plus. Breakfast was included in the rate and was interesting - the only 'western' thing was the selection of toast / bread rolls.

Room Tip: Book online !
