We love our stayed at Spa Hostel Khaosan, everything from the friendly & informative reception Mr Kenta, to big spacious ensuite room, modern & fully equiped kitchen, 4 PC with free internet, lovely onsen (when I was there it seems like it was my private onsen) are wonderful wonderful wonderful! Love the location map Kenta san provided, what a great way to explore the neighbourhood based on it. Hope we will have the chance to return in the future!

This hostel is nice and easy to find once you've arrived in Beppu, especially for us who were only arriving into the JR Station.

The first striking thing you see upon walking up to the hostel is the Tuk-Tuk, although more Sri Lankan style than SE Asian, still cool!

We only got to deal with Kenta-San during our stay but found him to be helpful and hospitable beyond belief, helping us with everything from finding a nice Onsen to making sure we had beers and Takoyaki in hand (For free!!) during the JPN Vs NLD match showing on the big screen in the hostel.

Going on from that previous paragraph, the kitchen and common area facilities in this hostel are probably the best I've ever seen, spacious, modern and welcoming complete with a Wii, two common areas and plenty of room! We didn't get a chance to use the Spa facilities as we had spent quite a bit of time up at Hyotan Onsen and were all onsened out.

Toilets and Showers are as with most chain Hostels in Japan, clean and well maintained although the hot water did run out quickly sometimes.

The room was decent and clean, although we were only to get a twin room with bunk beds, it was still comfortable to sleep in and Wi-Fi was easily accessible for free.

Loved this place. I would stay here again if I ever came back to Beppu. It has it's own Onsen as well which was great! Very central to everything! I highly recommend it!

Paid Y1200 for two nights in a very Japanesey feeling room with mats and paper sliding doors, dorms are about $25 per head.
It was hard to find from the station but after being here it was just that we hadn't persevered with directions and it was quite easy.
Go two blocks down straight across from the station. Turn left, walk about 10 minutes, there's a fruit n veggie shop on the left corner and across from the right corner there's a school yard. Turn right and walk 20m & there's a large open carpark and the Hostel is next to it, 2nd last place in the block.
The hostel has its own onsen. Great after a day of touring around onsens and mudbaths and onsens and did I mention the onsens.
The hostel is in immaculate condition. Amazing for a hostel. Leave shoes at entrance/foyer. Free internet. No curfew. Friendly, helpful young staff.
If you'd like a break from the usual Japanese food then the Joyful Pasta place near the Beppu Tower has a great set menu for lunch: soup, pasta, pizza, drink, dessert.
Take your own towel to the onsen/mud. Buy a cheap one in the Y100 cheapo stores.
The Bus Pass is Y900 but worth it to get around outside Beppu and to the mud baths and sand bath as well as other onsens and shrines.

We spent three nights at the Spa Hostel while travelling around Japan and were pleasantly surprised at how roomy the on suite rooms (with a huge shower room) were compaired with other hostel and hotel rooms in Japan. Well worth the little extra money.

The ground floor Onsen was very nice and very hot! Great thing to experience as we arrived late in the day.

Nice quiet rooms as the Hostel is down a small side street so very little traffic noise.

Large shared kitchen with good facilities and a fridge freezer on every floor for shared use was very handy.

Staff were helpful and friendly with very good english.

Lots of shops and restaurants within 10 mins walk.

Use the nearbyPost Office (8 mins walk) to change money as the banks seem to take 45 minutes+ to complete a currency transaction!!

Recommend the Bamboo Craft Gallery and travelling around the town and nearby villages trying out the many Onsens. Mmmm Lovely!

Alex.

Good location from Station. Free bike use. That was a plus. Went along the beach for miles. Saw heaps. Onsen was excellent. Supermarket was nearby. Not much to do @ night.

Booked 1 night on this hostel. Hostel had a nice onsen for both men and women although we were very unfortunate not to try it as we were only there for 1 night.

The room we got was the most spacious room we got in Japan. It was a traditional tatami mat room, with bunk beds, a large table, a dresser, an indoor terrace, a large bathroom.

Staff was friendly and very helpful.

Wish we can come back to Beppu sometime to enjoy the onsens and will definitely stay here again.
