Location: On top of the mountains, but there are many shuttle buses you can get to the parking of the hotel and JR station.
Service: Quite good and staff is very helpful.
Price: Not cheap, but fair with recreational activities like inside swimming playground and hot spring. Also, the price include morning and nigh buffet which is excellent.
Room is big with sea view.

My first time in Beppu, and Suginoi set the bar high. The location is splendid, right in the heart of Kankaiji Onsen, which overlooks Beppu Bay and is just a short drive from the Jigoku (Hells) in Kannawa. If you're driving, you'll need to park at the designated parking area at the foot of the hill and take a shuttle up to the actual hotel site. If you arrive at an odd time, there's a phone you can use to call a shuttle. Jump onboard, and it's a short road up to the massive Suginoi complex. It's divided into the main building, the Hana wing, and the dining/leisure/onsen building. I'd recommend you get a room in the Hana side, because it's directly connected to the leisure complex; so you just need to walk to get to the baths, your designated dining area, the regional products store, and the entertainment facilities. All of which are worth your time, starting, of course, with the baths, which are absolutely lovely. If you're staying for just a night (like I did), I suggest you try the baths at least twice - once on the night you arrive, and then again the next morning before you check out. They switch the men's and women's facilities overnight, so by doing this you get the best of both worlds! Suginoi also has a large outdoor clothes-on hot spring pool called the Aqua Garden; it's essentially a large mineral-rich swimming pool and you'll need a proper swimsuit to get in. It's lit up 3-4 times nightly for an illumination show, so make sure you spare some time to catch it!

I drive to Suginoi and stayed for two nights with my family. We stayed at middle wing where we could enjoy the benefit of selecting our own yukata and choosing Italian dinner cruise. I booked the room thro hotel official website and she would remind you about the check in , transfer and dining arrangement a week before the booking date.
We enjoyed the Tanayu (Hot spring outdoor pool), bowling, amusement games hall very much. Staff were very helpful and nice. A very good stay and I do recommend it to my friend.

We actually traveled here in Dec 2017, around the Christmas period. It was actually very pricey, at about ~USD$160 per person per night, but in some respects the price is worth it as breakfast, dinner, onsen and all other facilities were included. We had a Japanese-style ryokan room, which suited our purposes just fine. The breakfast and dinners were great; they had a fair variety of Western and Japanese items, though some seafood items are not included in the price.

The most impressive thing is definitely the onsens. We only used the one on the 7th floor, and while the pools themselves were not particularly special, the views were excellent. The one drawback was the fountain show they played at the outdoor "family onsen" pool, which honestly wasn't particularly big. Could definitely give that one a miss as it's quite small.

Service was excellent all-around. We were thinking of cancelling our trip altogether at one point, and our correspondence with the staff in English was very prompt. There's also a very handy shuttle bus service running from Beppu Station to the hotel, so its location at the top of the hill posed no issue. All in all an excellent hotel, provided one could pay the prices.

Great hotel with an amazing onsen. Very good for families and a really great atmosphere . Everyone wearing their yukata to the buffet dinner which was excellent. I don't expect much for a buffet but this one was delicious and catered for a variety of tastes. The children's buffet section was good too and included a candy floss machine for the children to make their own candy floss.

The staff were very helpful and whilst no one was fluent did speak enough English to help you if you don't speak Japanese. They were able to help us with luggage forwarding too.

The room we stayed was amazing with a Western area and a Japanese area overlooking the mountains. It was very relaxing and we all slept very well.

All in all this was a superb hotel that I would recommend especially so if you are travelling with children. It's good for one or two nights - you probably wouldn't want a week here. I hope to be able to stay here again.

Room tip: The mountain view rooms higher up are perfectly good if you don't want to spend extra for a sea view.
