“Friendly and relaxed hospitality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2013

A friend and I stayed 5 nights at Rakuchin in Naha. From the moment we arrived we were cared for. We had booked a three person room with twin beds and tatami mats for two of us and expected to pay for three persons but they would only charge us for two persons. The room was quiet, always kept very clean. Comfortable beds. Wonderful Japanese buckwheat pillows - fantastic for my neck. And we had all the extra space with the tatami mats. Fridge, air-conditioning, great little bathroom. All we could want. They gave us an English language map with recommendations for restaurants, isakaya, supermarkets and convenience stores nearby. that was invaluable. We used the map extensively. The Japanese bath was great, wonderful for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. Good laundry too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with tatami mats

When me and my boyfriend went to Japan for 47 days we stayed in 11 different hotels/hostels. This was one of our favorite.
We lived in a semi-western twin room – it was spacy and really nice. We liked the split Japanese/western touch. There was a fridge, a water boiler for tea/cup noodles, a TV and a good bathroom with W.C. and bathtub+shower.

The Wi-Fi, however, was not one of the best. Sometimes it disconnected by itself. Very annoying when you want to upload photos to your back up web site.
You have to register yourself on “Freespot” - the internet provider – also annoying since you didn’t need to do anything like that in any other hostel/hotel.

No yukata was provided.
The beds were a bit hard.
No elevator (we lived on the 2nd floor).
The room smelled a bit like raisin from the tatami (it hit you when you entered the room, but after being there for a minute or two you didn’t think about it anymore).

Included in the price was a small breakfast: toast + jam, and tea – highly appreciated!
You could bring your own food as well, like yoghurt or cup noodles, they didn’t mind.

Japanese bath (men and women separated) and coin op. washing machines on the 1st floor.

Sightseeing on Okinawa Honto requires a (rented) car. There’s a parking lot right outside Rakuchin and the facility owns 10 spaces there for the guests to use totally free of charge!

The hotel is located next to a red light district with several sex clubs, but we didn’t mind.
5 min walk to supermarket.

Overall a good stay, with good price.
(It's best if you speak at least a little japanese, the staff does not speak english)

Could not fault this hotel for our 11 day trip to Okinawa. It was within walking distance of the nearest monorail station, and from there you could also carry on walking through to Kokusai Dori (20 mins max).

The room was thoroughly cleaned every day, and you were required to be out of your room by 11am to enable this. Breakfast is primarily toast and coffee/tea in the reception area, where there are a couple of PCs with internet access for guests to use. The wi-fi also works throughout the building just fine.

The best part of the hotel though is the people behind the reception desk - they could not be more helpful if they tried and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

I would definately return to this hotel, what more can I say?!

This inn is strongly recomended. For 8400yen a twin room per night including simple but sufficient breakfast is the best buy as far as I know. It's about 1000yen, 15 minutes by taxi from airport.
We stayed for three nights in october 2010. We were in a twin bed room with TATAMI, which was very cosy and comfortable. The room was equipped with free japanese tea and self-boiling pot, YUKATA(pijama), toothbrush etc..Whole building was kept clean and nice.
They have nice big baths (free!) in common area and it's worth a try which was the main reason we chose apart from the price. Be careful, you must wash yourself clean before you dip yourself into the big bath tub. Anyway it's really relaxing!
They also have 2 internet pc and garages free of charge. There are even a washing machine and a dryer but with payment.
They have a shop in this small inn and you can buy tipical Okinawan souvenirs in discount like AWAMORI liqure, Aloha shirts, or cosmetics, and others such as snacks and drinks.
We have found this place by chance but we are very glad. The reception is very kind and available. They have their original free map and if you need you can buy some tickts for verious places to visit in discount like famous aquarium "CHURA-UMI SUIZOKU KAN". Just ask them for informations and they are very helpful and friendly.
Some points of disadvantages: I don't know if they speak any English, the surrounding zone is considered as "pink zone" of the city, there's no elevator (2 storeys high) and if you want a non smoking room (up stairs) you've got to bring up your baggage by yourself...
