I started at the Makishi Station and walked back toward Naha. Lots of restaurants and souvenir shops along the way. You can stroll down for a good 30 minutes to an hour and find just about anything Okinawan that you want. It is definitely at tourist area.

I can see over the years, it is changing. Many omiyage stores carrying similar items. Vicinity to tram system. Look around... I walked from here to Shuri Castle - it was HOT day - wear hat, take bottles of water, sun glasses - enjoyed walking to discover the area. Did not feel it was far as there's so many places to see... Also, noted that Okinawa local foods - very similar to foods served in Taiwan... very interesting.

Going to Naha and not going to Kokusai Dori is like going to Virginia Beach and not going to the boardwalk; or going to Orlando and never visiting a souvenir shop.

Sure, there are many great restaurants and shops that aren't on Kokusai Dori, but it's a great central place to find everything from produce and sushi to tee shirts and wooden snakes.

Some things you should consider doing while on this street:
1. Take advantage of some of the photo opportunities, whether they involve the giant cat on the second floor or the plastic disney/marvel/anime characters in some of the shops.
2. Get some ice cream or crepes along the way.
3. Pick up at least one shirt that's been Okinawa-sized - Goya or Orion labels, often on otherwise familiar looking shirts.
4. If you want to get something less cheesy, some of the shops have great artwork, including beautiful blue glass jewelry, artistic tee shirts, or wall art.
5. Walk to the end of one of the covered side streets - lots to see.

great place to walk and experience the hustle and bustle of Okinawa street life; lots of neat shops to buy souvenirs from and big /small restaurants/eatery to choose from

wow, you can find everything in this street.

All difference types of souvinors, wine, gifts from Okinawa. Many restaurants along the main streets for you to choose. It is a place where you will go more than one time during your stay.
