I like this place. It is simple and friendly. I felt that the people that worked there were very appreciative of my business even though they are doing quite well with their clientele. I ordered the tenderloin steak which was quite tender. Although other reviewers stated they did not have to season their steak, I felt the state needed a little salt but that's alright. Also, from another review I ordered my steak medium knowing that the steak would come out more like medium rare. Good idea to order the wellness of your steak one or two levels higher than you normally like your steak.

Next time, I need to try the tacos. They look pretty good,

Overall this is a great place to sit back and relax and have a beer and A steak with some friends.

The crowds and atmosphere seem to add more to the establishment more than the food. The portions are good, as well the price, but judging from the New York Steak I ordered, I was a little disappointed especially since Jack's Steak house the #1 ranking on this site and the seemingly endless praise this establishment gets. I'm convinced it's the atmosphere, which to me reminded me a little of Katzs Deli in NYC, and not the actual taste of the meat. I had to use the steak sauce and the soy sauce with my meat, where as at a great steak restaurant, you wouldn't have to use any type of sauce. Also this steak, like 90% of the steaks I've come across in Japan is cooked on a hot, greasy griddle (like teppanyaki) and not over flames. Steak cooked over flames makes a huge difference if you really like steaks. But in any case, it's a good deal but probably not the best meal, at least in my humble opinion. I also should add the superb service is also what keeps people coming back, to be fair.

I visited Jack's (also known as Jackie's) on recommendation of another Westerner living in Tokyo. At first blush the interior is not like a Smith-and-Wollensky's type of steak house, but has a lot of character. At the door are the signatures of the celebrities (mainly Japanese form what i gathered) who have frequented the joint.

Despite several parties ahead of us we were assured it would be about a 30 minute wait. Many folks actually wait standing in the parking lot or in their cars until their turn is called. We were skeptical about the wait, but after a few minutes saw a lot of turnover.

Less than 30 minutes later we were seated and having already surveyed the menu made our order. The steaks appeared very, very quickly. they must have an awesome system. You are served a very basic soup and salad prior to the steak. The steak itself is served on a pan with a few fries and some soft onions, possibly boiled.

I made the mistake of assuming I would need a lot of force to get my butter-type knife to cut through the steak and nearly threw it across the room. The steak came so tender, soft, and juicy I could have likely cut it with the fork. Not only was it cooked to perfection, it tasted amazing. I dabbed a little of the house steak sauce, but really only need the steak itself. The onions were okay, but I would have preferred them raw.

I also ordered some tacos to go. I ate them a while after leaving the restaurant, so cant quite comment on how they would be fresh, but even after an hour or so they were pretty good. 5 for 500 or 600 was a pretty good deal.

To sum up how good the steak was, I was in Okinawa for 2 nights, 3 days and had dinner BOTH nights at Jack's. If I was staying longer I likely would have gone back for more steak and tacos!
