“Nice private onsen!”
Reviewed 4 August 2013 via mobile

Ok, I went there just for the onsen, didn't stay there. Good that you can book a private onsen for 30$ per hour. Perfectly clean and good option for those who have tattoos, are shy, or whatever who don't like public onsen (like me). And btw, you can cool down the water at your convenience (always found onsen water too hot)

Hotel
====
The hotel is built in 1960, and although it has been renovated a bit, it is very worn. It used to have it's own cable-car to the mountain just across the river, as well as a nice nature walk, but both are closed down (broken down).

It features a big outdoor "Jungle Spa" which is worn but well-kept.

Rooms
=====
Roms were featuring furniture from the 70's but were well kept and generally nice. They were very children-friendly and brough baby-cots and night/spa-clothes even for small children :-)

If you get room in main building, they will all be facing the mountain with huge floor-to-ceiling windows. A very green view :-)

The Spa
=======
The hotel is located by a hot spring and has a big covered-but-kinda-outdoor "jungle spa", which is the main attraction of the hotel. The spa is also dated, but well-kept, and the view from outdoor hot pools is great. Fun fact is that they switch male / female side of the spa every day, so you get to see it all. In general nice, but worn.

It also features some private spas which were renovated in 2006 and are in excellent condition.

Food
====
Hotel rates usually include breakfast + dinner. It is served in what feels like a school cantina, but the food is really really good.

Shopping
========
A bit surprising, but there is a shopping arcade which is fully functioning inside the hotel with convenience store and everything, along with a bar, tacky tourist stuff etc.

Children
======
There is a small indoor playground at 4th floor, at the Shopping Archade. Fine for kids 2-5 years.

Surroundings
==========
Historically hotel has been located in nice surroundings and there used to be walks etc. But most seems to be closed down. Probably still possible to walk up the mountain if you try.

Room Tip: We insisted on a non-smoking room (having booked a smoking) and got a room upgrade to a small "...

Really, very good value for price (especially after 10 days in Tokyo and Kyoto). I partially agree with the 2 earlier reviews in English, but overall I felt very satisfied with this hotel. My room was spacious, even by american standards. Very good western-style bathroom: everything worked well. View on forest was relaxing.
Very very nice staff, I was impressed by how eager they were to help, even by Japanese standards. Very little English spoken, but excellent attitude, at front desk as well as in dining room. Very good buffet dinner and breakfast. No complaint.
In some aspects, the hotel may need refurbishment, but this did not affect my comfort or enjoyment. Compared to many other places I have been in Japan, this is a bargain.
Really, would go back again.
I did not try the hot spring bath themselves. My need was housing and 2 meals, and I am happy.

This hotel is far from matsuyama train stations and area sights. The hotel itself is very outdated. Hard spring beds, hard pillows, old carpet , and very expensive buffet dinner.

The plus is their hot spring baths which guests can enjoy for free. The view is stunning as all rooms are mountain/ forest views and it's gorgeous. The location itself ist ba of it wasn't such a pain getting to the city center.

One might ER paid for dinner at their buffet and it was ¥6000 for two people. Ridiculius and horrible. Breakfast which was included was a bit better

Wouldn't stay here again even though the device peoe were so nice and accommodating.

Stayed for one night with our 3 young childeren. In room with private bath. Room in general ok, the bathrom needed some refurbishment. The private bath size is big enough for 2 adults. Dinner and breakfast were part of the deal and ok, not special a I do expect in this kind of resort. In general the stay was good because the children love the private onsen bath in the room.

Room Tip: If you have a bit more to spend the room with the private bath is an god option.
