“Get the combo ticket - castle, tram, Botchan tram for a good deal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

If you purchase the combination ticket at the Toursit Information Center you can get entrance to the Castle, a one day tram pass including a one way ride on the Botchan tram. I don't think we would pay extra for the Botchan, but it was pleasant riding since we had the ticket. Be sure to turn you ticket in at the reservation center at the Dogo - if you are going in the direction from the Dogo back to town - to claim a numbered, reserved space on the tram. The empty train sits outside the station waiting to have its picture taken before you board. A little bit of history!

“Old-style tram, great with kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2013

A great tram-ride around town which kids will love. Adults may find the diesel-powered "steam train ride" a bit tacky. But it is not expensive.

“Botchan Old Steam Tram”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2013

There are two types of tram going to Dogo Spa. One modern, the other is a vintage steam tram called Botchan. Both run the same two routes. Route 1 is from Komachi Station and passes in front of JR Matsuyama Station on the way to Dogo Spa. Route 2 leaves from Matsuyama City Station for the spa. Both routes terminate at Dogo Spa. Botchan is dearer than the ordinary tram but worth it for any vintage enthusiast.
Next to Dogo Sation is the Botchan Karakuri Clock which gives an interesting display every hour on the hour.

“Tourist train”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2012

If you are Natsume Soseki's fan and train fan in general, you may wan to ride this. It's a one car tourist train. The conductor was very enthusiastically telling us story and sights we passed by but the train was so noisy that we couldn't hear anything.

On the same line, there was the city train. They looked more interesting and went to more places.

For train fan, one thing about riding this train is when you get to the terminal stop, you get to see how the conductors turn the train around. Sometimes guests would help too, our tour guide told us.
