“An Historic Temple”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

This is Temple #80 on the Shikoku pilgrimage trail and although it is quite close to Takamatsu (four stops along the local line towards Utazu), there didn't seem to be many people around. A number of pilgrims drifted in, but there was not much to disturb the peace and tranquility of the temple grounds. There are lots of interesting statues and a nice stream and plenty of donation boxes dotted around. For a donation you can ring the bell. The statue of Kannon in the main hall is an important cultural asset and is surprisingly small. Only a 5-minute walk from the Kokubu railway station.

“Lovely temple, lots of history”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We found this temple as we explored the town of Takayama from the markings on the street corners. The town is small, busy and very interesting so I do recommend you explore it. This is Takayama's oldest temple and was originally constructed in the 8th century but later destroyed by fire. The oldest pre4sent building dates from the 16th century. The temples treasure hall houses some important cultural pieces. The area has a small stream and some grave stones and the special area to recognize the babies who have died. It was a very serene spot and I would recommend visiting it if you are in Takayama.
