This lovely temple is well worth seeing. Be sure to visit the museum of treasures. It is one of the 88 temples on the Shikoku pilgrimage route.

This temple can be reached every hour from the Harimaya bus station in 20 minutes with the My-Yu busline ( 600 yen for a day-pass ).
As we were pressed by time we took a taxi and for 4 persoons we paid 1200 yen for a 12 minutes ride.
This temple , founded by Gyoki, and built in 724 on Mount Gozai and is the 31st of the 88 temples of the Shikoku-pelgrimage.
The main hall is known as the temple of learning.
The Daishi hall, garden and 5-storey pagoda are designated by the authorities as a location of scenic beauty.
The pagoda is said to contain some ashes of Budha.

There was a special event when we visited the Temple, thus it was crowded with both organizers and visitors. Also, it was a photo stop for tour groups, especially in the Fall season with coloured leaves. Some good photo points if you could spot it with no big crowd.

This temple area is just amazing: tranquil and beautiful - thoroughly Japanese. I really wish we had had more time to spend here in order to just sit quietly and reflect. There is so much to see, yet everything is so peaceful. The workers in the shops near the parking lot were so friendly, but they have very limited stock, so I was unfortunately unable to purchase a souvenir. This area is definitely not ADA friendly; there were two people in wheelchairs on our tour (even though the brochure forbade it) and the hills are just too steep and the stairs are natural, so there is no way to bump a wheelchair up and down them.

It deserves to be known, even though the road to get there is sa steep one! The scenery is wonderful, and the collection of statutes is definitely worth the trip.
