The main attraction here is the opportunity to buy fresh seafood in the market and then grill it over a charcoal barbecue.

It makes the whole market-visiting experience much more fun because, as a tourist you can actually try some of the stuff being sold.

There’s a small charge to use the BBQs and you can also buy drinks, rice etc. Seafood prices are fair. 8 clams, 5 sardines and a cut up squid cost me ¥1200 total.

There is also a meat vendor at the back of the market if you prefer that, plus places selling other food options (yakitori, croquettes, sweets, etc).

Fun way to do lunch

This fish market is clean and the people are very nice. The BBQ station where you can cook your seafood over wood charcoal was nice. The seafood as expected was fresh and very reasonably priced. Even if you are not a seafood lover but your spouse is, they sell meat that you can BBQ as well. it is a definite go again type place!!

Great place for seafood lovers.
A famous market for Hachinohe locals.
Not sure any public transports going there, we use our own cars so not a problem for us.
A lot of choices of fresh fish and you can grill the fish on your own.

Great place for grilled seafood. It is very cheap and fresh. You can get a grilled for 300 per person. All seafood, rice, and beverages can buy it from the shop around. Great place to visit.

We did not find Hachinohe attractive. This is our last stop in Aomori Prefecture before catching the JR train to Tokyo. However, we think Hassoku Centre outstanding and is much better than the fish markets in Aomori City. It is easy to get to with the 200 Yen bus from Hachinohe city centre for a 10 mins journey. I believe the Hasshoku Center only opens during the day (so lunch) and is closed on Wednesday.

Once arrived, there are different options for food. There are sushi/sashimi/noodles restaurants near the entrance. But the fun part is the seafood market inside the Centre. You can buy sushi/sashimi from the seafood vendors and eat on some of the free tables inside the Centre. We (and the tourists) opted for the BBQ. There is a BBQ area when you pay Yen 350 per head to rent the charcoal grill. Then you can go out to the seafood vendors and buy whatever strike your fancy - my advise is to walk pass all the vendors first before you make your decisions. We found some vendors inside the Centre offer more attractive seafood than those near the BBQ area. There are fish/squid/crab and shellfish. This is great if you have a big group to share the food. Very reasonable prices - two of us spent Yen 3,000 on scallops/clams/oysters/shrimps/beer. Remember to clear your own trash.
