“Spartan and smoky”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

The standard rooms were spacious, spartan but adequate. There are refrigerators in rooms and cups, and you can ask for electric kettle. The rooms are not soundproofed, you could often hear TV and conversations from neighboring rooms and hall. Breakfasts are provided in room at time you specify. Room WiFi signal was poor; I often had to stand by the door to get any signal. There was a big problem with smokiness even in non-smoking rooms, especially on the weekend, and probably drifting up ventilation from gaming room in basement. The gaming room makes the entrance very busy at night, especially weekends. The desk staff spoke English and were helpful with check-in and billing. Views of city and mountains good from hotel, and location central, next to City Center mall. I thought the price was too high for the quality and challenges of this hotel.

Room Tip: Choosing a room on the south side (back of building) will limit street noise.

I just came from a terrible experience in Almaty, mainly because of this horrible hotel and its staff. We arrived in the hotel early in the morning (before check in time) and the girl at the reception told us that we could enter our rooms, thing we were happy about, because we were tired from our 18 hour trip, but we later were astonished when we were going out for business, when other girl told us to pay for an extra day!! We agreed to pay (we did not want to lose time on this) and told her that the wifi was not working, thing he denied several times until she came with us and checked that, effectively, it was not working.
Later that afternoon, wifi was still not working, neither did that night.
The following morning, we went out (wifi still down...) and when we came back, the girl didn't want to give our room keys until we did not pay the last night, that we agreed would not be paid, if we did not have the service we were supposed to have. We had an argument but the girl refused to give us the keys and give us a compensation for such a bad service. We ended up paying, because in this kind of countries, the least you want to do, is get into trouble...
Also, breakfast was absolutely awful, it was served in the room (there wasn't even a little dining room...) and it was really scarce.
In sum, if you are planning to travel to Almaty, I recommend that you avoid this hotel and its despicable staff.
