“Gamewatchers / Porini Adventure Camp!”

Selenkay Conservancy
More attraction details
Attraction details
Owner description: Masai-owned conservancy and safari camp near the Amboseli National Park.Selenkay Conservancy shares the same eco-system as Amboseli National Park and is established on land leased from the local Maasai by Gamewatchers Safaris & Porini Camps with the aim of protecting the wildlife habitat and encouraging wildlife conservation as an alternative to farming as a means for the local population to earn a living. Migrating species from Amboseli previously killed or driven off land set aside for farming are now able to make the conservancy their home. Recent years have witnessed a significant increase in wildlife numbers with elephants returning to Selenkay after a 20 year absence.

“Gamewatchers / Porini Adventure Camp!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

We were in the reserve as part of a three-day package. It allowed us to enjoy open vehicles (verrrry important), top guides, but access to the adjacent Amboseli NP.

The reserve (in July) is dry, savannah woodland, and was filled with game and sightings. Our top guide/tracker team, Wilson / Melita, read every sign, track, and call. Being private, the reserve offers escape from East Africa's legendary crowding. Selenkay is also next to several Masai villages, one of which welcomed us in.

We could not have been happier.

“Awesome camp”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014

If you have never felt the excitement of the wild in the care of some beautiful African Masai people, this is the time to think about putting Porini Salankay on your list of 'to do' next holiday. We loved our second visit to the camp when we saw a pride of lion at sunset, of elephants, buffaloes, Eland and gerenuk, zebras and Thomson and grant gazelles to name a few. Loved every minute of the days. Shared many stories with the local people and rekindle with the village people. We felt safe and secured in our environment and ready to take off again soon.

“Perfect Porini”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

This is my favourite Porini Camp. If you want a real bush experience then this is the place to go. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, the tents are spacious and comfortable and the food is delicious. The variety of game on view is fantastic and the drivers and guide spotters have an abundance of knowledge to share. You must go!!

“What is a Conservancy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

A conservancy is a protected and very well stocked private land with the lowest ratio of visitors to acres it is possible to get. Nothing to dislike all brilliant
