Stayed at Satao Elerai, Amboseli, from 12th to 15th December 2013. The tents are spacious and clean, and the beds very comfortable. Views from the tents facing Mt. Kilimanjaro are breathtaking. The service is excellent.Very friendly, attentive and helpful staff and the food is very good and well presented. Love the resident Genet cats and the one-horned Eland. Got to stroke him! Perfect for the bush holiday! Highly recommend it to those who want a real adventure trip!

I have stayed at this quant traditional masai camp a number of times and love it through Southern Cross Safari's which has the highest standards of excellence. Both the tents and the rooms are luxurious, spacious and with large bathrooms with a view. The tents give you a view of Kilimanjaro even from the toilet! The beds in the rooms are exceptionally comfortable and luxurious. The standard of the food is very high and the staff service friendly and attentive. The bush walks are done with the local masai who share their knowledge about the animals, tracking, insects, flora and fauna. Waking up in the morning drinking your morning beverage snuggled up in bed or on the veranda watching the sunrise with the majestic mountain towering over you is a sight for sore eyes especially when there is lots of snow and elephants are walking by. The swimming pool is cool and refreshing with a spectacular view of the mountain and the waterhole and the elephants often come right up close to eat from the bushes around the pool. The design of the camp itself is unique and open plan with a masai feel and tastefully decorated creating a very classy rustic feel - like your part of the bush surroundings not separate from it. The Camp was built to involve and support the local Masai community with the economic incentives set aside for their wildlife conservation.

The Satao Elerai Conservancy forms the critical wildlife corridor linking the Kilimanjaro Forest Reserve in Tanzania and the Amboseli National Park. The Conservancy is a project between the privately and community owned camp, the African Wildlife Foundation and the local Masai Elerai community. The Masai community excursion is well worth a visit. I love staying in this camp!

My wife, daughter and I recently stayed there via Southern Cross Safaris. The tents were perfect; hot water, flush toilets, electricity in the morning and evening when they run the generators, Kilamanjaro in the distance. A great way to go on Safari. The food was very good, with at least 4-5 choices for lunch and dinner, and breakfast cooked to order. The service was excellent. The main building where meals are served, also has a very nice bar, and lounge area with a fireplace and Wi-Fi when the electricity is on. Our safari guide, Eric, was outstanding, and really made the trip special. We stayed 2 nights which was perfect. This safari was the highlight of our trip to Africa, and if you're going to safari, do it right like this.

Satao Elerai is an interesting experience. If you can take the 5 K road into the property from the main road, you can survive ANY road in Kenya (and THAT is saying a lot!) It is simply horrific....exhausting. The property is nice and the rooms good. We awoke one morning to elephants just off our back porch with a clear view of Mt. Kilamanjaro in the background! The food was adequate, but the house wines and beer were very good. One great thing in the rooms is the ability to not only lock your tent (the rest of the tent camps we visited had no locks). One really awkward issue is the shower floors are cobblestone, very difficult to stand on, especially when wet. The service was outstanding...all employees were very friendly and helpfu.

This small camp is out of the ordinary. As we stepped out of the car a feeling of calmness and tranquillity took over. Culinary meals. Waking up with the Kilimajaro as a view from your tent(bed). Everything was more then perfect. In the morning we did a walking safari with George a Masai guide. This is somthing you do not want to miss out on. His knowlegde is amazing we learned so much from him. The manager Ryan Steward is awesome, his heart is in the right place and his pictures wow... We only stayed for two nights (to short) If we can we will definitly come back to this place.

Room Tip: Not to miss. If possible Stay here as long as you can.

We spent three nights in the Satao Elerai Camp and had a great time. Our tent was really nice, having a drink on the porch gives the perfect "Out of Africa" feeling, in particular if you can hear and even see elefants breaking through the bush in front of it...

The staff is very attentive and helpful, the food is not extraordinary but very good, especially having in mind how far our the place is, and breakfast on the terrace was close to perfect. The small pool is great spot to watch birds taking a bath and to admire the beautifulk landscape.

Although "the mountain was sleeping" almost the whole time and we could see it for two hours only, this was quite an experience. We really enjoyed the relaxed and almost private atmosphere of this small camp.

Satao Elerai is one of the best places I've stayed - just beautiful! The location is remote (it's a very rough road to get there) but the view of Mt Kilimanjaro was unbeatable; the tented huts were first class (they were like something out of a magazine); the architecture of the main building was really nice; the infinity pool was gorgeous (the view from the pool was amazing); the food was excellent and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. I know this sounds like a gushing review - but this place really is this good. We only stayed for one night (sadly!) - on the afternoon of our arrival we had the opportunity to go on a walking 'safari' with a guide, Most of the walk was in relation to plant life & the guide was incredibly knowledgeable & engaging.
The place is owned by the local Masai people and many work there which was nice extra touch.
The only thing to be wary of (this didn't bother me but it might bother others) - the power is only on at certain times of the day and is not on overnight - so you need to make sure you have a torch close at hand if you get up during the night.
