My family and I stayed at Tandala over a weekend in July with the aim of spending some quality time together. This turned out to be the perfect destination for that. The house and rooms were absolutely beautiful - a couple of the bathrooms were particularly luxurious. We brought our own food and the chefs were very accommodating and happy to cook everything we wanted. We didn't venture far from the house apart from to climb a nearby hill one morning - hard work but wort it for the view. The rest of the time we spent keeping an eye on the waterhole ad relaxing around the pool - unfortunately the staff weren't able to heat the pool up for us (despite us being told that this would be possible) so we weren't able to swim. We also enjoyed massages and treatments during our stay.
The house is beautiful and in a lovely location, but the highlight was definitely the staff who couldn't have been more accommodating.
Our second round at Tandala and we will return again. I am almost reluctant to write a sterling review in order to keep the crowds away. This peaceful and tastefully done home is the perfect family retreat. Two hours from Karen makes it a great option for a weekend get away! The staff at Tandala are warm and welcoming. The chef was superb and willing to learn new recepie's. We took bicycles and rode alongside the river, bird watching, a walk to the top of the hill, sundowners a spa,a bath under the trees, a pool and plenty of space to hide with a book. One of our favourite spots!
We just spent an amazing two nights at Tandala Estate. We were 7 adults, 3 children and we could have stayed for a week. The house itself is this amazing combination of indoor and outdoor space with one of the most welcoming, relaxing vibes we have experienced in Kenya to date. Almost every element of the architecture and layout is charming, well thought out and comfortable. Words really don't adequate describe how unique and special the house is. You feel like you are sort of in a rural version of Alice in Wonderland. Tons of nooks and crannies that create special enclaves -- it took us hours to fully discover all of the twists and turns in the house!
The staff were divine. We chose to self cater but honestly with the amount of support the team gives you, it really didn't feel like true self catering. They helped us cook, were amazing with our children and cleaned up before we could get to it ourselves. The best part about the house is that it allows you to truly unplug. There is no internet, no television and a generator for a short time at night. We took walks and swam and read and spent time together -- it was a truly basic (in the best sense of the word) weekend. They had a wonderful massage therapist at the house for the weekend and so many people in the party had treatments throughout our stay.
Already booking our next trip to the house. We really, really loved our time there.
