“Simply amazing”
Reviewed 18 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We came to Tandala house for a weekend get away amongst friends. It is one of the most amazing places I have had the privilege to stay in. The house is absolutely gorgeous, with amazing views.
The unique bathrooms and decor were just amazing and we were at total peace with the natural habitat.
We were well taken care of by the amazing staff, namely Eric and Rashid. They were gems and made us the most amazing meals all through our stay. Their attention to detail and patience was just amazing; with all our drunken shenanigans :-)
I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to get away from Nairobi, and is opting for a different out of town experience.
We heard there were hiking activities :-), but we spent most of the time sipping on wine and whiling the hours away by the pool. Thanks Tandala house for a great start to the New year. I will definitely be back.

“Quintessentially Kenyan and full of heritage, taste and consciousness for the environment.”
Reviewed 18 November 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Tandala is simply beautiful and it is easy to see the love, care and attention the Roberts family has put into the creation of their home.

We stayed there with extended family having herded 56 overseas wedding guests around for 4 days prior and it was perfect, self-contained, socially oriented space where family (including a 6 month old) could spend time together, read, swim, relax and eat well.

There is sufficient space that everyone is not on top of each other, each of the bedrooms has something unique of its own to offer (not to mention each having an ensuite bathroom, also with something of its own) and the staff bend over backwards to make your stay comfortable in the way that Kenyan safari staff really can.

The house itself is quintessentially Kenyan and full of heritage, taste and consciousness for the environment.

“Luxury & Tranquility”
Reviewed 21 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

My family and I stayed at Tandala over a weekend in July with the aim of spending some quality time together. This turned out to be the perfect destination for that. The house and rooms were absolutely beautiful - a couple of the bathrooms were particularly luxurious. We brought our own food and the chefs were very accommodating and happy to cook everything we wanted. We didn't venture far from the house apart from to climb a nearby hill one morning - hard work but wort it for the view. The rest of the time we spent keeping an eye on the waterhole ad relaxing around the pool - unfortunately the staff weren't able to heat the pool up for us (despite us being told that this would be possible) so we weren't able to swim. We also enjoyed massages and treatments during our stay.

The house is beautiful and in a lovely location, but the highlight was definitely the staff who couldn't have been more accommodating.

Thank you very much for your review.
We are so glad to hear that you found your time at Tandala to be relaxing and that the staff helped make your experience more enjoyable.

With regard to the swimming pool. The heating runs on a solar system which is operating all the time. Unfortunately in months where there is quite a bit of cloud cover the pool does not heat up quite as much as sunny times.

We look forward to having you again.

“A beautiful Oasis, not far from nairobi!”
Reviewed 3 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Our second round at Tandala and we will return again. I am almost reluctant to write a sterling review in order to keep the crowds away. This peaceful and tastefully done home is the perfect family retreat. Two hours from Karen makes it a great option for a weekend get away! The staff at Tandala are warm and welcoming. The chef was superb and willing to learn new recepie's. We took bicycles and rode alongside the river, bird watching, a walk to the top of the hill, sundowners a spa,a bath under the trees, a pool and plenty of space to hide with a book. One of our favourite spots!

“Magical Family Home in Rural Kenya”
Reviewed 8 December 2014 for a stay in November 2014

We just spent an amazing two nights at Tandala Estate. We were 7 adults, 3 children and we could have stayed for a week. The house itself is this amazing combination of indoor and outdoor space with one of the most welcoming, relaxing vibes we have experienced in Kenya to date. Almost every element of the architecture and layout is charming, well thought out and comfortable. Words really don't adequate describe how unique and special the house is. You feel like you are sort of in a rural version of Alice in Wonderland. Tons of nooks and crannies that create special enclaves -- it took us hours to fully discover all of the twists and turns in the house!

The staff were divine. We chose to self cater but honestly with the amount of support the team gives you, it really didn't feel like true self catering. They helped us cook, were amazing with our children and cleaned up before we could get to it ourselves. The best part about the house is that it allows you to truly unplug. There is no internet, no television and a generator for a short time at night. We took walks and swam and read and spent time together -- it was a truly basic (in the best sense of the word) weekend. They had a wonderful massage therapist at the house for the weekend and so many people in the party had treatments throughout our stay.

Already booking our next trip to the house. We really, really loved our time there.

Liked best: The house itself was truly magical. The view, the layout, the architecture, the setting -- it was all just really special.
Liked least: The house could have used a more thorough cleaning -- especially the bathrooms, bug nets and pool. The pool really needs to vacuumed daily.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review on your stay at Tandala.

I and the family are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay so much. Thank you for your wonderful comments about the house and the staff. I have printed your review and given it to the staff which I am sure they will find extremely encouraging.

We have noted your comment on the bathrooms. The owners have decided to remove the fireplace in one of the bathrooms which we hope will make the room less smokey and keep it cleaner.

We look forward to welcoming you again when you visit in February.

All the very best
