As a European, who has been brought up with the priciple that there should be any discrimination, i did not visit the museum when i discovered that there are different prices, depending on where you come from. Africans pay less, put it negatively, mzungus have to pay more. Im Dutch, imagine, the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum would have a different price for, let's say the Chinese? How would they feel about that?

Good museum of Malindi: a very interesting old Arab building and fascinating exhibits. Though the first floor is taken up with the history of the coelacanth, the other floors are more fascinating for historical and philosophical reasons. I bought a really good little History of Malindi guidebook there. The place is important and needs tourist support.

Description of the rare sailfish is great. The museum in itself is a beautiful depiction of a typical swahili house. Mark the diagonal windows, that prevent sun and sand but allow air to reach in.

This isn't so much a museum as an exhibit about a rare fish caught in the community, plus a Muslim-sponsored exhibit of some historical artifacts. The willingness to operate a community-based museum is good and continuing to support the museum may help it grow into a real showcase for the rich history of the area.

I had never had of a fish called coelacanth, neither had i heard of a fish with 6 fins, so you can imagine my amazement when i saw this "thought to be extinct" fish at the museum. plus learning the history of the museum.
