The hotel was Amazing with a great pool. Food was good and staff were exceptionally friendly. However, Rooms were not good at all and were very dirty. The beach was nice but you couldn't go beyond the hotel because of locals trying to sell you items. All in all it was a great holiday with a few bumps along the way. I definitely suggest going on a excursion out of your hotel to a Game Reserve.

The hotel itself is ok, nice and clean. But there is the worst sea in front of the resort i have ever seen. Unfortunatelly. You will have a chance to swimm in the resort pool only as the see is red/brown from the nearby river and full of seaweed. We haven' t put our feet into it there at all.
There are less expensive resorts with great green sea just 20 min away at Watamu. Much better choice!!!

My wife and I booked into Sandies Coconut Village for our honeymoon. We were greeted by very friendly staff and shown to our room, which was decorated with flowers to commemorate our union. The place is decorated with a lot of white paint that initially is very stark but you soon get used to it. The wifi is only available in the common area and the speed of it is pretty slow (so don't count on video streaming).
The house beer and wine is great under the Kenyan sun, but unfortunately the cocktails are only available at certain times of day for the all-inclusive customers. As is typical for the country, there is a power outage at least daily - but the hotel's generator kicks-in in under a minute. The majority of the entertainment is fun but very amateur, and the "animation" team (who perform most of the entertainment) is positive and actively get the guests involved. They also have a love for disco music that I don't quite understand.
The hotel itself is fairly well guarded from the locals, but if you step onto the beach then you become fair game for them to sell you everything from maasai warrior figurines to tours. There is also a collection of small local shops off the beach within walking distance of the hotel.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and relaxed to the max. Definitely a great place for any couple in love.

Room Tip: Rooms very close to the reception may get wifi in the room.

I stayed at the Tropical Village for 3 nights with my family. The stay was very enjoyable for the family and the variety of activities ensured that we all had something to do without tying one another down - grown up kids are never the same as small kids and try to avoid the parent! The food was fantastic for an all inclusive hotel. I was disappointed with their sea food specialty as it was exorbitant. Initial fears of being stuffed with italian pasta were unfounded as the buffet had a variety of food. What I could not understand was the decision to serve the all inclusive beer in small glasses which meant some customers were stocking up to 3 glasses to avoid moving up and down to get their beer from the bar. The broken down Tusker Keg dispenser was a blessing in disguise and this meant that we had beer off the bottles which is much better quality.

The rooms were clean and at check in we were given a preferred room. The roof fan and air-conditioning had the rooms very hospitable. If you can avoid the peak holiday times, the cost is very competitive and the hotel is enjoyable to stay in!

Room Tip: Select the first floor rooms as the offer privacy and a good view of the grounds.

We spent a few nights at Sandies earlier this Fall and had a pleasant stay. The property is fairly well maintained with spacious and relatively clean guest accommodations. Unfortunately, the food leaves much to be desired, which is disappointing for an all inclusive establishment. The meat is of poor quality and we were disappointed with many of the meals. This is definitely an area of opportunity for the hotel.

Also be prepared for the beach boys, who are extremely aggressive. We walked the beach and went kayaking, mostly ignoring them, but other guests seemed quite annoyed.

Highlights: friendly staff, kayaking, pleasant pool area.

Tip: Bring your own beach towels, if possible. The property loans out one towel for a 20 Euro deposit, but these towels are small and flimsy. Bring your own from home, which will also help you reserve your spot poolside.

Recently returned from a great holiday in Kenya where we spent 5 days at the coast staying at Tropical. I wouldn't normally choose an AI resort so my expectations were not high. However I was pleasantly surprised. The room was large and comfortable, although the mattress a little hard. We initially had a problem with our air con but this was resolved immediately. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The resort was pleasant and the pool was nice, although I can imagine it might feel a bit over crowded when very busy. The staff where extremely friendly and helpful. I enjoyed chatting to the animation staff everyday and there was some good entertainment options (aqua aerobics, volleyball etc) although my friends found the loud music a little intrusive at times. There are lots of beach boys but on the whole they accept if you are not interested and can be very interesting to talk to if you have the time and inclination! My advice is to be polite but firm! The food was ok, lots of choice at an adequate standard, however there are plenty of restaurants in Malindi if you get fed up of the resort options. Personally I found the wine undrinkable and the premium bottle we paid for one evening was not much better so I would advise sticking to the beer or Safari Rum!
Tropical definitely met our needs for a place to relax and enjoy some fun in the sun......it's been a struggle to return to chilly England!
