I spent 7 nights in Scorpio villas and have to say that I fell in love with it. The hotel has beautiful gardens all over, 3 nice pools, restaurant with good food and bar with nice drinks (english prices) plus small shop. You can not really swim in the beach which is very close so we rather stayed by pools or took tuk tuk to nearest nice beach (30 mins).
I red about Geoffrey here - the guy organising trips to Safari, so we decided to go with him and we were totally satisfied. You have to pay in advance but together with driver took great care of us and were very patient and helpful. And also cheaper! You can trust him. We went with Geoffrey for boat trip as well.
I would recommend this hotel to those who need comfortable, quiet, nice & relaxing place. For young people it might be little boring.

The hotel is beautiful and so relaxing. The staff are extremely friendly and will do anything that they can to make your stay enjoyable. I don't agree with previous reviews at all, we could not have been happier staying here. The hotel is Italian run as stated in previous reviews, however there is a great deal of variety of all types of foods which are delicious and plenty of it! It is not just pasta as one review states. The rooms are spacious with AC and a high powered ceiling fan with 4 settings so are cool at all times. Bathrooms are a little warm as they don't have AC but again, very spacious and clean. The room was cleaned daily with clean towels daily and the bed was changed every other day, the service was excellent. The beach does have a lot of seaweed but this is not as we know it, it is more like dried leaves amongst the beautiful white sands. The beach is extremly clean and the water is clear and warm as you would expect from the Indian Ocean, not horrible at all, it was lovely. The attention to detail in this hotel is second to none, I would HIGHLY recommend a stay at Scorpio Villas.

Really, It would be unfair to comment on this hotem, because what we got for what we paid was excellent -
Our aim was to visit Kenya, find a cheap hotel to leave our suitcases whilst we would be out on a safari -
Scorpio Villas was pretty cheap for us, and was just fine regarding accomodation & food.
Unfortunately we found Malindi is quite some way out from the nearest Safari park (Tsavo), It was about 6 hours drive before we got there...we had to leave at 3.30am. to get there before noon.
Although there is a gate within an hour or so from Malindi, the area is so dry that no wildlife ( or hardly any) is to be seen until a few hours drive inland.
If you plan to visit and book a hotel as back up for a Safari, I would not recommend Malindi,
If you love the beach, and fishing, go for it

We were booked in for a week, but left after 3 nights as we simply could not take it any more, its such a shame as this could be a great place, the actual hotel itself is beautiful with 3 great pools a good bar, restaurant and gardens, the rooms are well apointed, beds are very uncomfortable though and rooms stuffy at night. The managers are Italian and VERY unhelpful, on our first night we found out they have a policy of making you share your table with other guests if you are either on your own or a couple, which when you are on a romantic break is not ideal, when we asked if we could have a tablel just for 2 of us the manager said that she did not speak any english and brushed us off, later i heard her talking to guests who had just booked in fluently in English, the food was ok, not great but ok, some of the waiters were quite moody too, also do not expect great things from the beach its horrid and full of seaweed and gunk! So all in all not a great place to stay , i think the hotel is very italain orrientated with pasta on the menu everyday , so if you dont mind that, a rude unhelpful manager, uncomfy beds, and a rubbish beach then this might be the place for you!!

We arrived at the Scorpio Villas last week to find they were overbooked. Elvis the rep who met us was very abrupt in telling us we had to stay at the Coral Key Hotel , basically we didnt have any choice. He first told us it was Cosmos holidays fault that they dont check space and just keep booking. Then he finally admitted that the hotel has long staying Italian guests who if they decide to stay on longer the hotel just let them and basically bunk out the Cosmos guests. The rep said this had never happened before but looking over the old reviews it seems to happen a lot. There were at least 7 others who were meant to stay and ended up in Coral Key Hotel. All i can say if you do book to Scorpio dont be at all surprised if you end up in the Coral Key hotel and go forbid if you do! Please read my review for the Coral Key to see why you would not want to end up there!!!!

A really nice surprise with a fear price for Kenyan residents, the staff is very nice and friendly. It’s a quiet place nice to relax or recover for one busy night at Farmento.
If you take a took took, a king of Vespa but with two seats and place to put the luggage from the road next the airport it will cost you KS150. The beach is not so nice because the coral reef and the see weeds but even so it worth’s the money, just realize that the average of the age at least on this weekend was a but high, but if you are looking for quiet it’s the place to be. The rooms and beds are spacious, clean and confortable.

Along the beach for the right side of the hotel you will find Mariposa which is a nice Italian restaurant right in the beach with really nice Italian Food, To dinner go to the Old Men and the Sea the sea food its amazing and priceless. Ita a good place to buy Kikois, I got several for KSH 260 in the fabrics of Indian Guys.
It’s amazing how Italian is the city everybody speaks Italian, the good thing are the Italian restaurants. For sure I will go back to Malindi!!

We stayed at Scorpio Villas in Nov/Dec 2008 when it re-opened after the earlier fire. Apparently it is much improved since then. We found the accommodation good and the staff generally very helpful and friendly (particularly Andrew at the bar). The food was mainly good, although the restaurant staff were slow. The clientele were largely Italian (the hotel is Italian owned) and when we were there several elderly Italian men openly entertained young Kenyan girls. On at least 3 occasions the tourist police attended the hotel when the girls had not been paid. This could have been embarrassing for guests with children and did detract from the overall experience.

When booking a safari you will receive dire warnings from the travel rep about booking from anyone but them. However their price is very high - even the hotel prices are much cheaper. We took the risk and booked with Geoffrey, who you will find by the back gate. He is a gentleman, not pushy like some of the others and accompanied us on the safari along with our driver Gambo. We also had another tailor made day out with him and it was excellent and very reasonable.
