We stayed here in September 2011 on the first leg of our honeymoon in Madagascar. There are too few superlatives to do it justice - the location is extraordinary, being situated within a 450 hectare dry deciduous forest nature reserve with the hotel itself having a superb beach front location, with access to a furher 5 private beaches, and a private marina allowing further access to the spectacular Morumba Bay. The hotel is very special - beautifully constructed with 2 dozen individual villas, finished to a high standard and well maintained and spotlessly clean. Lunch and dinner are a la carte and although there are only 2 choices for each course at each meal, all are superbly prepared and presented, and no dish was repeated in our 5 day stay. The hotel's own 'Oasis Garden' is visited daily by lemurs, and drinks are served there to allow you to enjoy their visit in comfort. The hotel's guides are knowledgeable and helpful whether you take a forest wallk or a boat trip - there are enough of these to keep you busy for a week or more, should you wish to stay that long. There are also opportunities to visit the local village. The wildlife seen on the guided trips is plentiful - reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals all in abundance. However - what really sets the hotel apart is the staff, led by the brilliant Cedric. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I have never encountered such a friendly and helpful team, and it is the little touches - cold towels on arrival at the airstrip, or complimentary drinks on return from a walk, which make the difference. Two tips - honeymooners, make sure that you bring a copy of your marriage certificate (or have it emailed to you there if that is the best you can do) as some activities - the massage, the private beach picnic (an absolute must!), the cocktail cruise or the private dinner in the Oasis) - are either discounted or free for honeymooners on production of the certificate. Secondly, it is worth knowing that the hotel is accessible only by air, and the planes in question are small - we arrived by 6 seater, and returned in a plane so small that I sat in the co-pilot's seat. Even for nervous flyers, however, Anjajavy is definitely worth the trip. Anything else in Madagascar may seem a disapointment after staying here, so it is worth making Anjajavy your final destination.

This is the most amazing place to have a honeymoon - relax on holiday or just to get away from it all.
The beaches are gorgeous. The wildlife great ( lemurs, chameleons, crabs and birds galore), the villas are beautiful and very comfortable. The food is to die for - fresh fish every day..or tasty meat, fresh veg and the most delicious desserts..
The staff are the best..so kind, gentle and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble - your every need is catered for.
The manager Cedric will even show you saturn and jupiter, as clear as crystal in his amazing telecope.
Wonderful place..

Room Tip: Yes, if you are a honeymooner ask for room 25 or 26.

Anjajavy was recommended to us by friends. When looking at the internet site, I was not completely convinced, but my wife pushed for it and we decided to go. That's a good thing, because we found a corner of paradise there.

The welcome is exceptional. The manager, Cedric de Foucault, is passionate about Madagascar, and he share his interest in this rich culture and country with you in a discreet and subtle way. This hotel is extremely well managed under his leadership. Unlike the majority of mass hotel chains that exist today, this place has a soul and personality, much of it due to the masterful management by Cedric. One has the sense that the staff is happy and proud to work for Anjajavy and all of their efforts converge around the goal of making your stay as excellent as possible. This result is certainly the outcome of alot of effort and education in training local staff that did not speak much french and any english even ten years ago!

Anjajavy, is an oustanding example of a hotel that integrates with the community around it, particularly in a place that is extremely remote and far away from the modern urban world that most of us come from. This is evident in the respect that Anjajavy has for its surroundings, in the hiring and training of local staff, and also in the harmonious relations that the resort maintains with the local neighboring villages. When we asked the manager before arriving if there was anything we could bring to him or his family from France, he proposed that we bring toothbrushes and pens to contribute to the local schoolchildren.

The architecture of the hotel is simple but very beautiful and the bungalows are lovely and blend in well to the natural environment. The place is very comfortable and very tasteful and refined.

The food is excellent, healthy and clean. The table settings are lovely and the service top notch.

The property is extraordinary and very diverse, ranging from private beaches with dramatic cliffs, red earth, white sand and clear aqua sea, the neighboring villages and local culture, the large beach in front of the swimming pool. There are many activities available for those who are bored by sitting at the beach all day, including many nature hikes, fishing, boating, catamaran, and kayaking and others that I am forgetting now. There is a good variety of wildlife to see including two types of lemurs, alot of birdlife and flora. There are also several nice surprises which await you!

We have travelled to a wide range of hotels including many very exceptional and luxurious places. Anjajavy is an exceptional hotel with impeccable taste in harmony with its surroundings.

We recommend it without hesitation! It is a great destination for couples but also for families and children.

I have just treked the national Parks of Madagascar and was really looking forward to my time at Anjajavy. It was fabulous and very relaxing. . Most people there when we were there had teenage kids, were single or like me with a girlfriend. Once you have layed around for a couple of days, seen the Lemurs and done the walks it became quit boring. Fabulous if you are a honeymoonerI. For anyone else i would suggest 3 nights max. We had to do 5 nights as that was all that was offered.

Room Tip: Bungalow 10 - only onr right on the beach

Thank you for your lovely comment! We indeed recommend 3 or 4 nights at the end of a round trip of Madagascar, as a treat after a sometimes rough discovery-trip around the country. But as a stand-alone destination, this would probably be a bit short. Anjajavy is a place where guests can sample a little bit of many of Madagascar’s interests (rich fauna, endemic vegetation, tsingys, mangroves, fishers villages, beach, deep sea fishing etc.) and also relax. Surely, one would need more than 3 nights to get around all the different sights that this 550 hectares peninsula has to offer.

We stayed in Anjajavy at the end of the month of May. This was the last hotel during our honeymoon trip and I am so glad my husband convinced me to book it. It was expensive for sure, especially driven by the fact that you can only access it by private airplane, but it was so worth it !
We stayed 3 nights and 4 days and could easily have stayed longer. The place is beautiful and definitely worth its status as Relais et Chateaux. While we were there only 6 villas out of the 25 villas of the resort were occupied, so we quickly became friends with the other guests. The attention to detail and the personal touch was wonderful. As honeymooners we also got some special treats but I won't tell so I don't spoil the surprise for other people.
The villas are beautiful and made of palissandre wood, the view from the balcony is wonderful. You feel secluded but at the same time you know that you can have whatever you wish. I highly recommend paying extra for the picnic on the beach (unforgettable) and the excursion to Moranga Bay.
If you can afford this place, then definitely go there ! It's a beautiful end to any Madgascar stay and no other place on the island match the standards of Anjajavy.
PS : the only thing the place lacks is a spa, which would definitely be a + there
