My husband and i went to Anjajavy L'Hotel through Rainbow Tours who specialise in Madagascar, in May 2013 for 10 nights.

It does take time and patience to get there but the 1 1/2 hour (tiny) plane journey is an incredible experience in itself as you go up the spine of the country.

Once you see the tiny air strip and no road in sight you understand what kind of a place you are in. Pure heaven. When you arrive Cedric, the GM comes to meet you in a 4 wheel drive - and this man could not be more passionate about the reserve. On the half hour drive to the hotel he points out the wildlife, and flora and fauna for you to see. On arrival, the staff meet you with some cooling drinks and breakfast, whilst they cleverly whisk away your bags to your cabin without you realising. Its then you see the breathtaking view, the blue sea framed by palm trees set in a botanical garden with lemurs everywhere - its perfection to look at. Its then that you are told that even though you are in Madagascar, you should set your clock to an hour ahead - Anjajavy has its own time zone....

The rose wood cabins are gorgeous and very comfortable, my favourite part was the large terrace with uninterupted sea view with a hammock which i fell asleep in reading a few times.

The food is really incredible and changes each day, although you can always order off menu if you like - the Zebu is delicious!

There is so much to do there - walk to one of the 10 secluded private beaches, walk through the salt well walks, round the cliffs, go waterskiiing, kayaking, fishing, have a massage, play volleyball, play pool, take a dip in the pool, snorkelling, visit the local villages, take a night cruise with cocktails...

Cedric organised a brilliant game of volleyball between us and the staff which was so much fun, and the staff suggested a game of football with the villagers which was hilarious and a fantastic experience. They literally couldn't have done more to ensure we had a great time, and Cedric gives you a few surprise treats throughout your trip.

The staff at Anjajavy couldn't have been more attentive, friendly, capable and lovely. I can't name them all but were certainly a few who we will never forget, who gave us such an experience, we truly miss them all and hope we will see them all again soon!

I cannot say enough about this place - i have been to many many places in the world and this is by far my favourite and we will definitely be returning. If you are looking for a honeymoon, or a life time trip away, this is the most special place on earth.

Went to Madagascar for our honeymoon. This was the highlight. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Amazing location although difficult to get to.
Read the trip advisor reviews which were excellent putting this as number one for Madagascar, it deserved it and exceeded our expectations. Best hotel we have stayed in.

Cons. Butter was not warm enough at breakfast to spread on toast easily ;)
The bar is pretty expensive so be prepared.

A combination of nature and nurture to perfection. Ignore all information online (including their websit, which needs to be updated) regarding vacancy at the hotel. Call and make a reservation directly! They have to coordinate getting there by private flight.
If you are looking for a place to sum up, rest, understand Madagascar's possibilities this is it. The team from the village is trained to perfection by Cedric the manager (a french Malagasy). Your comfort is first and foremost. A magical place with lots of fascinating activities, that aid understanding how a top class hotel can be fruitful for nature and locals, at the same time giving complete pleasure/comfort and experience to the visitor. Or you can just bake on the beach or next to the cool infinity pool enjoying the tasty menus and drinks. Great for first/second and make believe Honeymoon :) If we come back to Madagascar we come back here!

Anjajavy, a secluded 5-Star hotel named after a local indigenous tree is only accessible by air or sea. Its experiences are many; from cave exploring to night walks looking for noctural lemurs to snorkeling amongst the floating limestone islands where sacred baobab trees dwell amidst the turquoise Mozambique Channel.

The small cottages are very well appointed, food and service was superb and there is more than enough to keep one content with daily tea time at 5 in their landscaped oasis teeming with lemurs and dancing sifaka's.

Your host and director Cedric de Foucault is a Malagasy native whose knowledge of the country and area is exceptional.

This is a must on any global travelers list!

Room Tip: All of the individual cottages are on the beach and enjoy the setting sun over the Mozambique Channel.

If paradise exsiste then Anjajavy is it.we spend 4 days with friends and family.
Beautiful designed houses and hotel in an amazing nearly dreamy setting by the sea.
Quality all the way through from warm and personal service to surprising high standard cusine.
Simple and very healthy.
Beach sports and trips up the coast visiting local villages made it a more complet experience.
Our best beachresort experience in our globetrotter life this far.

Room Tip: Choose houses on the beach.
