“better than my expectation”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

booked a superior double room in a saturday night, we arrived johor at noon and we ask the taxi driver to drive us to KSL for leaving our luggage, then we go legoland directly.

After playing in legoland, we back to KSL to check-in in around 18:30 , there is no queue for check-in luckily so we just need to wait for around 5 mins from hotel lobby and go up to our room.

our room is in tower 2, the room is spacious, all amendities are functioning well, wifi working normally, the breakfast in the next morning is rather good too athough there are many people when we go down in 7am.

the hotel is connected with the ksl mall, no need to worry for food and shops

so recommend this hotel as we are satisfied with it.

booked this resort for 3 nights with my children and husband, so we could experience legoland. I left with mixed feelings - the shopping mall was fantastic, as was the weekly open air market. My kids loved the dinosaur themed pool area. And had the pleasure of cocktails in the little bar which was wonderful, and your staff there couldn't have been more wonderful! The decor of the main foyer was also beautiful. Was disappointed with the basicness of the family room, it was small and felt very cramped for 2 adults and 2 small children. The breakfast and resteraunt also was disappointing.

Made a last minute booking at this hotel for a short trip to Legoland Johor and Johor Baru. After reading the reviews in Tripadvisor, I had mixed feelings about this place but subsequently decided to give it a try anyway.

I made a point to avoid the apartment block since almost all feedback was negative. Booked a hotel room and requested for non-smoking room with a king sized bed.

Location
̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿
The hotel location is rather central in Johor Baru town. Unfortunately the surroundings of this "resort" is pretty complicated and a huge mess. One good thing is that there are many eateries surrounding the hotel and you can easily get a sampling of cheap local food.

We drove and had to look for the entrance to the carpark. The roads were rather busy when we arrived at night and cars were going in all directions. Finally we found the entrance to the basement carpark. As mentioned by some other travellers, the basement carpark is crowded since the carpark is shared with the mall. Although this resort is rather new, the basement carpark is TERRIBLE and filthy. It looks more like a badly maintained 10-year old place. Since we were already in the basement, I didn't bother to look for the upper floors parking area. As a guest of the hotel you get free parking. All you have to do is get your parking ticket validated at the hotel reception.

Check in & check out
̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿
We arrived around 8pm. Since it wasn't a peak period for check in, the process was smooth. I was given a room as per my request. There are 2 hotel towers - Tower 1 & Tower 2. We were given a room in Tower 2 which was a short walk away from the lobby (Tower 2 lifts were right in the lobby). The passage to Tower 2 lobby smelt of rotten eggs for some unknown reasons. I'd suggest you request for a room in Tower 1 for convenience.

We requested for late check out but was allowed to extend till 12:30pm only. Had to queue about 15 minutes for check out as it was the peak period. Process was relatively quick since my room was pre-paid.

Room
̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿
Carpet - YES
Wifi - YES
Came with free wifi but was good for only 2 devices at any one time. The reception was good enough to give me a few slips (with userid & password) for 1-hour complimentary wifi use if I needed to use more than 2 devices. Room size was reasonably big and could accomodate 2 adults and 2 children. Maintenance wasn't too good though. The bathtub wasn't cleaned well and the was mould at the corner of the wall. Water leaks onto the floor when you shower. There is a rain shower but we didn't use. The position looked like it would wet the entire floor if we used it.

Water Park
̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿
The resort boasts of a water park on the 7th floor. There is a regular swimming pool that is meant for hotel guests and a separate "water park". The entrance fee to the water park costs RM50/person but is free for hotel guests. Hotel guests simply need to write down their room number and check-in/check-out dates in the registry at the entrance to gain free entry. there is no verification required. Anyway, it is totally not worth paying RM50 for the park. The water park is really small with a couple of slides for kids and shallow pools to laze in.

Shopping
̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿
The hotel is connected to a large shopping mall. You could spend the whole day shopping here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in Tower 1 for best convenience.

Just returned from a night's stay at the KSL Apartments.

It's just a 5 min drive after clearing the Malaysian customs. We booked a 3 bedroom apartment which is another area from the hotel towers. There are 2 apartment blocks and the check in area is just next to the KSL carpark entrance. If you are driving there, do enter via the D'Esplanade entrance which is in red and park at the lots facing the check in lobby. You can proceed up to the apartment carpark after you are done. Essentially they are the same carpark with the entire KSL shopping center but just segregated by a metal fence from till the 5th level. If you have entered via the main carpark entrance like I did, there's no need to move your car, just that you'll have to get your parking card validiated at the hotel at counter 10.

The rooms are what you expect in an apartment. It's spacious and the view is wonderful. We stayed on the 21st floor facing the Paragon and New York Hotels. The kitchen is fully equipped with cutlery and an induction cooker hob and hood. The main bedroom has a King sized bed, another with a queen sized bed and the last with a single sized bed. The air conditioning is not centralised which is a good thing. The bathrooms have rain showers and comes with the usual hotel amenties like shower gel, shampoo, toothbrush, sewing kits...etc. For the price we've paid, this looks pretty good so far.

KSL has plenty of restaurants to have your meals and snacks so no elaborationg needed here. We ate many "meals" while we were there. Also plenty of shops to cater to the shopping addicts. It's pretty much self contained but for the more adventurous, the surrounding areas are worth exploring. There are road side stalls that have durians for sale at 1/2 the price comparing to the shops within KSL (basement). You can end your day with a late night movie at the cinema on the 4th floor. Do note that you will have no access to the apartment or hotel via the shop area so you'll have to go down to the ground floor and walk the building perimeter to the hotel entrance. For thos staying at the apartment like me, don't follow the crowd down but instead take the lift up to the 6th floor and walk across the carpark. You will be able to gain entry with the access card.

As mentioned there are plenty of restaurants within KSL but settling the most important meal of the day can be a problem because KSL don't open till 10am. If you are a early riser ot have kids who can't being hungry, my advise to to prepare the day before at the bakeries or even at the supermarket. The kitchen is fully equipped to cook a simple breakfast. Or do head to out to Tea Garden (at the main drop of area) to fill your tummies. Do get there before 9am to beat the crowd and avoid waiting long for your orders. Fatest way there is once you are at the entrance of the carpark, turn right and walk along the building (down slope). There are also surrounding coffee shops but be prepared to wait and share tables.

Overall we will definitely come back for the next short getaway.

Some tips for anyone who have booked the KSL Apartments.

1) Upon checking in you will be given 2 cards (White & Black). The black key card is for the digital lock at the apartment. Once you leave the apartment, you can keep this into your bag. For the white card, you will need this to gain access to the shopping mall via the shortcut, open the glass door when coming from the carpark, entering to lobby after 10pm...etc.

2) Do note which lift to take. The black access card will tell you which lift you are only to use to get to your apartment. There are 2 doors to every lift and your card will only work for the correct side. There's a notice above each control panel so do take note.

3) Don't bother with the swimming pool at the apartment. Go to the Dinosaur Theme park at the hotel side via the 6th floor carpark. Follow the signs and go up the escalator until you see the hotel swimming pool. The dinosaur theme park is at the end. Do remember to sign out for the towels.

4) Do try the Penang Laksa stall at the KSL basement. Fastest way is upon entering the shopping center via the shortcut, look for the nearest escalator leading to the basement on your right next to the Summit shoe shop. The stall will be right in front of you as you reach the basement.

Enjoy your stay at KSL...

We drove to JB and arrived on weekdays and was not happy with the hotel surrounding. There are houses and shops around the hotel. Traffic was busy amd the roads are narrow so we really not thrilled with the location. So 1st impression failed. Parking was nightmare. The parking lot was dirty maybe because cement floor not the epoxy floor we used to see in moat malls in KL. Check in was fine. Room is average with outlet point not functional. Room service plates from room next door was left unpicked for more than 12 hrs
From around 9 pm to 11 am the next day. The hotel elevator requires room key scan in order to select the floor but sometimes the scanning not working. Elevators are too small and waiting time was quite long and chaoticm

Booked through Hotels.com for Deluxe Triple Room, 12-15 Jun. Smooth checked in. Did not wait for long. Despite a triple room, we only allowed 2 key cards and free wifi for 2. Asked the receptionist. Replied bluntly it is only for 2 guests. Got a room on 26th floor. Room is ok except there are ants at the coffee making area. Drainage at shower area was not good so after every bath, the shower area is flooded. It was mentioned a queen size bed and a single bed but the queen size bed is very small. Smaller than a normal queen size bed. Aircon was noisy and not cool on the first day we checked in. We waited for the room to cool down but it does not seem to. It was quite late so we did not send for technician to check. We informed the receptionist the next day and the room was very cool when we were back from shopping. My hubby lost his bermuda pants when we were back and the room was made up. I called the Housekeeping and managed to retrieve back the pants in less than an hour. The Housekeeping Attendant apologised that he may I accidentally cleared it away. On Saturday, 14 Jun our room was not made up despite me calling them before we went out. In the end, we only asked to change the towels and cleared the rubbish bin. Action taken quite fast. Breakfast at Infusion was quite good. We did not wait too long before we were greeted and taken to our seats. Overall enjoyed our stay. Shopping and eating all under one roof. My son enjoyed the Dinosaur Water Theme Park very much. Happy that it is free entry for hotel guests.
