And then there is the maths...our room if we were paying is 700 MYR p/n - about US$220. But the points required is 5000 p/n for the entry level room (but we get upgraded due to Diamond status). Each year we receive 280K points for US$1500 with our HGVC membership. So 280000/5000 = 56 nights we could stay here for $1500!!!! So tonight we are essentially paying $26 for a one bedroom suite with breakfast and lounge access for evening cocktails and canapés. And I wonder how Hilton makes money off guests like Tony and me!!

Even though this hotel is still in the very first weeks of operation and so have a few little 'teething' issues training and staff understanding what is to be done, overall it is already ahead of the game in Johor.
The hotel offers everything a traveller wants, business or for recreation. It is clean, offers several options for eating and has a recreation area that is a breath of fresh air in the middle of JB city.
The main dining area.'The Makan Kitchen, is large and offers a variety of choices. The management has employed chefs from a variety of backgrounds so one can get either traditional Malaysian, Chinese and Western Food types. All of which is well presented and the serving staff attentive to your individual needs.
The food throughout the hotel is at a reasonable price compared to what is offered in the local shopping areas. Remembering this hotel adds the extras within their food range; freshness, presentation and 100% guaranteed good food. The food and price could not be faulted.
The coffee shop at the front of the hotel, 'The Food Store', is a clever way of getting in with all the local businesses in the area for lunch or a snack throughout the day. It lends itself to those 'break out' moments within a conference where one wants to move to a more relax atmosphere to discuss what has been covered. It is also another option for travelling families who want a coffee and feed the children at a reasonable price and simply without staying in their room.
'Tosca's', the Italian restaurant is yet to open, however, is serving the pool area at present with drinks. This is due to open on the 1 August 2014, and if the quality of service continues with the food served downstairs and the drink already served by the pool then it will do well. An Italian chef has apparently been employed as of last week so the food should be good.
The 'Axis Lounge', which is the lounge in the main foyer is another terrific area for 'break outs' from a business meeting or conference so would work well for any business groups wanting to book conference rooms. It is also a lovely area for parents to sit, have a coffee and read the paper if they want time away for an half or so.
The ambiance across the hotel is what a Hilton client comes to expect and this Double Tree has not failed in performing at and above the requirement of this level of Hilton DT.
The executive lounge is well thought out and has a long room with good views across the shopping areas of JB. It has good service, good areas to sink into and enjoy a cocktail during cocktail hour or a quiet breakfast away from the masses at breakfast time. Executive lounges always offer that quiet get-away-area where one can enjoy the peace. There is also a meeting room for those businesses who want to meet in privacy whilst being service by the staff.
The executive suite and bedrooms are within the requirements of Hilton DT.They are clean and the beds are comfortable.
The pool and gym areas are what makes this hotel outstanding for recreation time. To be served around the pool area is what holiday makers are looking for. The gym equipment looks over the pool area on the same level and steam rooms and spas just add bonuses all round. I can see these areas becoming very busy with customers. Great views to be had from the 13th floor pool area.
Overall, the hotel is outstanding. It they can keep the cleanliness and servicing happening over time then his hotel will be a diamond in the rough of Johor that it is already showing itself to be. It is close by all the shopping in Johor, within walking distance to City Square and a short taxi ride to Danga City Mall, Plaza Palangi and Tebrau City. It is in an easy to reach area for taxis and is walking distance to the long distant taxis and buses to Singapore. Remember, just like Singapore when it is peak hour it is peak hour, so like any shopping area in Singapore or Johor - peak hour means busy roads.
Double glazing makes this hotel very quiet to be in so even if it is peak hour you do not hear it.

The hotel's condition,location and staff service was excellent. The food was great. But I particularly appreciated how helpful the staff was especially the coffee house manager MR.Tilex has given a very nice service. If I were ever to return to the city I'd certainly stay here the Double tree by HILTON brand...

Had to do a business trip, and although it was only an overnight stay, we found the staff extremely gracious and warm. The room and its amenities were fantastic. Used the gym, well equipped. Great pool, but did not get a chance to use it. We had room service but there was a great buffet going on at the Makan Kitchen outlet. Plus great location. Parking is provided in the hotel. I would defnitely stay at Doubletree JB again. On business or holiday.

Hotel was newly opened thus furniture was new and bedsheets are new. Reception staffs were friendly and efficient. Michael was helpful to get us a room at 1pm. stated to be a double double room but bed seem small and like super single. quite disappointed. hotel name card not ready.

Recently i was on business trip to JB but i stayed in other hotel. It was suprised when my friend told me there is a Hilton brand hotel just opened in JB! So i make myself to view this hotel in a short time. The staff are very friendly. Smiling & greeting every guest accross at the lobby. The moment i step into the lobby, i was welcome by a lady. I believe she is a guest service & assisting me with the hotel info. She sacrifice her time to walk me around the hotel up to the pool area. I was impressed with the view from 13th floor! And the well designed of tosca that will be officially opened in august if im not mistaken. With her warm and great service make me definitely to choose this hotel for future trip. This is one strategic hotel of the few in JB. And i was offered with a lovely cookies. I was told that each guest will received cookies upon check in.

As you note, the DoubleTree by Hilton is a recent addition to the JB skyline. Our doors opened and we started welcoming guests with our world famous DoubleTree cookies just three weeks ago!

I was very pleased to read that you found the team welcoming and friendly and that they went out the way to show you around. I am glad the world famous DoubleTree cookie added to the welcome.

Tosca Italian Trattoria will open on August 1st and the bar, with it fabulous terrace and views is already trading.

I just stayed in this hotel recently last week, surprisingly we had to paid over RM300 after taxes but the rooms doesn't include breakfast the cheapest rate including breakfast will be at RM370, this is insane simply ridiculous. How gonna cost a buffet breakfast max RM45 per pax? Why not throw in the breakfast and increase the room sales m sure it wont cost so much for 2 pax breakfast for even cheapest category. Even some budget hotel in JB with room night RM100 per room per night they still can afford to give and simple breakfast. Overall stay was good staff look fresh and friendly and the hotel looking very Richie but overall very poor bcz cant even include breakfast for room which cost RM300 prprn.

I note your concern regarding pricing but I can confirm our current pricing is equal and in some cases less than hotels of a similar standing both here and in KL. To assist in understanding your comment as to being overpriced, I would first need to understand what your comparison was based upon. I was a little confused that given your clear concern at the rate and lack of inclusions that you still opted to make the purchase and then rate the hotel poor based on this decision?

In short, the choice to puchase a room only rate rests with the consumer. Many people do not want to purchase the breakfast inclusion, so the inclusion of breakfast in all rooms is not viable as you suggest. Just to clarify, the supplement per person for breakfast if RM 35 per person.

In closing, I am pleased that you found staff friendly and the presentation of the hotel to your expectations.
