While I found this place very peaceful n serene ie away from the tourist scene, I felt the expected 'Malaysian' hospitality was missing. Breakfast wasn't very exciting ie 1 boiled egg , toast n cereal! I was hoping for malaysian nasi lemak or even something more like a continental brekky.
Our rooms weren't cleaned regularly - didn't like having sanitary stuff sitting in a bucket in the bathroom . Yes we could have put it in the outside bin, however given that we had left australia to come to Malaysia for a break from domesticity , I didn't feel looked after as a guest, which I expect when I pay good money.

Although the houses were quaint n retained a malaysian feel, it wasn't very practical
For our baby who although had a mozzie net, was fully bitten all over As mozzies made their way through the floorboards!!

The pool was slightly small for a place that could accommodate up to 20 odd ppl. At times it felt like I was intruding on other ppls conversations because of how tight the pool area was .

Overall tho, a serene n picturesque place with a few missing hospitality bits!!!

Dear Eleanor, first of all thank you for the feedback in your review, but we think it needs a bit of clarification from our side. Regarding your comment about the breakfast and cleaning service, it is clearly stated on our website that Sunset Valley is a collection of self-catering heritage Malay holiday houses and is not a hotel with daily cleaning service. We provide fresh towels every 3-4 days, clean the houses and change bed sheets every week and if more cleaning is required, it can be provided for a small fee on request. We also don't understand that you say breakfast was 'a boiled egg, toast and cereals'. You were served our standard breakfast with fresh fruit, juice, boiled eggs, cheese, a variety of cereals, fresh milk, several jams including marmalade, peanut butter, whole meal bread, tea and coffee. Some mosquitoes are unavoidable in the tropics, so we provide you with mosquito nets and an electronic repellent in the house. We are sorry that you came with different expectations.

We would thoroughly recommend this resort if you are looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy meeting interesting people. We had read the information about Sunset Valley and knew what to expect- we didn't want a five star hotel, but wanted to have the freedom of a self catering holiday with the added benefit of the swimming pool and company when desired. I can honestly say that we were not disappointed. David and Gudrun made us very welcome and an additional benefit was being able to rent their motorcycle for the month. The communal area and the swimming pool were excellent and we spent many a pleasant evening there. There is a lot to do on Langkawi and our hosts gave us the benefit of their knowledge of the island. Sunset Valley is impeccable and nothing was too much trouble for Gudren and David. Would definitely go back. Jeff and Christina

Hi Jeff and Christine, we trust you had a safe journey back home. We miss you here at Sunset Valley and hope Christine makes the same great choice for your holiday destination next year. We then can enjoy another awesome seafood BBQ in the pavilion.

Firstly, the hosts David and Gudrun were very welcoming and made both my girlfriend and I extremely comfortable upon arriving. Their knowledge of the island was fantastic and all their suggestions, whether it was places to view, restaurants to eat at, or where to best go for a spa/massage were nothing short of amazing.

We spent 9 nights in the Field House over Chinese New Year. A lovely house with a great veranda where we witnessed some of the most stunning sunsets over the paddy fields! With cooking facilities, a large fridge and a microwave, we found the house fantastic for afternoons when we wanted to relax in the peace and quiet that the property afforded you. It's not everywhere you can open up a window, or step on a veranda to see a seemingly endless stretch of Paddy fields and mountains.
As the property was in the centre of the island, it was also a great base as we could explore Langkawi (we rented a car, which David and Gudrun help organise before our arrival).

The pool area with the nearby communal kitchen, social sitting area and hammock is a winner! A great place to hang out, relax, and meet other people staying on the property.
I have recommended this place to plenty of people as we had a superb time staying at Sunset Valley!

My husband and I stayed at the Gate House at Sunset Valley for a week in February. This was our first visit to Langkawi and we were very pleased to have found such a lovely spot to use as our base. David and Gudrun are delightful hosts; nothing seemed too much trouble - they happily arranged our car hire, and when we bought a fish at the local market David prepared and cooked it for us whilst we enjoyed a drink with Gudrun at the outside bar. We were given good advice by our hosts, including a suggestion to eat at the Wonderland in Kuah - what a treat that was. The accommodation is better than the photos on the website indicate, so book Sunset Valley and you won't be disappointed. We certainly hope to return next year.

Room Tip: We looked at some of the other houses within the complex before we left, and feel the Paddy House may be the one we'll choose next time as it has a lovely view across the paddy fields :)

Hello Martin and Debbie. Thanks for the lovely review. I have decided that I like flattery very much! We enjoyed your company too and we also love fresh fish done on the BBQ! Soon after you guys headed off, another lovely couple also named Martin and Deborah (from the UK) checked in to the Field House. What a co-incidence! Hope to see you both again next year if not before!

My husband and I stayed at Sunset Valley over Chinese New Year weekend. It is very centrally located, peaceful and with pretty countryside all around. The hosts, David and Gudrun, were very friendly and helpful in providing tips and options for what to do and where to eat on the island. The accommodation was well arranged with a great pool and BBQ facilities looking over the padi fields. The cottages are beautifully restored and, although they are relatively basic, they have everything you need. Great place for a relaxing weekend with family and friends, we will return.

Room Tip: Cottage looking on to the rice fields has a lovely terrace
