“A ferry is a ferry”

A fast way to go from A to B.
Lack of service, Not even possible to buy a drink or anything.
Basic form of transport.
The rest is up to the ocean ;)

“A rough ride for a basic ferry”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

It is a cheap mode of transport however with it costing the same amount to fly from penang to langkawi I would not take the ferry. The boat itself is fine however it is a very rough trip and for the first time in my life I was sea sick despite loving being on boats, there were countless people vomiting throughout the trip. Nothing to see in terms of scenery.

“NICE ONE ...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

took the ferry from penang to langkawi...although the ride was comfortable enough but since all windows are above your head (while sitting down) there is not much to do while the boat is in motion ..the ferry terminal at Langkawi is a great one for shopping duty free.. also to hire cars for trips in the island.

“Value for money”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

Took the ferry from Kuala Perlis-Langkawi at 9:30 in the morning. I had booked tickets online but later realized that it can be purchased at the terminal too.

Carry some warm clothes as it can be freezing if you get a seat near the aircon.

“Good on the outside deck, inside deck nothing for people suffering from motion sickness”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

Going to Penang from Langkawi the ferry seems to be the easiest way. It’s cheap and only takes about three and a half hours. You can buy the tickets on the day of your trip at the Kuah ferry terminal. However, don’t imagine some German (European) ferry. It is a middle sized boat with one lower deck and seat rows like on the airplane and one small upper deck with a few seats outside. The air conditioning might get freezing when staying inside. There are two old fashioned tube TVs playing Chinese movies. The crowd is mixed, mostly Malay people and a few backpackers. If the weather is nice you can go outside on deck and sit there which I really recommend if you suffer from motion sickness. However the water wasn’t bumpy when we took the ferry. Reaching Penang and getting back inside the seating room to pick up our luggage before getting off the ferry somebody had puked all over the floor. However the aircon is so freezing that you didn’t smell it.
