It's very hard to describe the temple tree. They brought traditional buildings from several parts of Malaysia and assembled them at the temple tree, attention to detail adds to a wonderful atmosphere where everything is laid back, elegant and relaxing. I highly recommended for couples. Wine selection was great and meals are served in a central building. I recommend the Chinese house, that was beautiful. If you are allergic to cats, be aware, this really tame and cute cats live in the property and roam free through the gardens

Having traveled and stayed at diverse hotels and resorts across, Temple Tree turned out to be one of the most unique experiences ever. An anchorage for cat lovers with its 30+ cats that roam around the property giving you the opportunity to spend as much time with these lovely creatures. The experience of offering fresh water to one of the cats in our rooms to feeding them cat food was truly unique.

Beyond the cats, the property is conveniently located close to the airport and the Chenang beach (10 mins by taxi) so no issues on the location. Dotted by rice fields and blue hills make it a picture postcard location when you sit near the pool.

Rooms: We stayed in a Malay themed colonial house which was aesthetically done with a seamless blend of the modern facilities and traditional furniture. The ACs worked fine, mini ref was ok and the bathroom had appropriate facilities. The toiletries could have been better (read better quality brands) to go with the look and feel of the place. The beds were comfortable, rooms were cleaned well every day we were there.

Food: The in-room breakfast was nice….cakes and bread were filling. We also tried the food at the adjacent BonTon and that was pretty good as well.

Service: Understanding, amiable and ready to help staff across both properties....James (Manager) also helped us resolve a issue with a Tour operator, which was appreciated....

A few shortcomings: No phones inside the rooms, wi-fi does not really work, you cant order any food in the room, a really small pool….

Overall: So if you are looking for a different experience and want to enjoy time with cats, this is the place for you.

Total relax in Temple Tree for our 3 last nights in Langkawi, after some busy hotels in Cenang.
Lovely malaysian houses, trees, nature, birdsongs, cosy breakfast in our kingsize bed... and peaceful cats everywhere to calm down yourself...
Temple Tree and Bon Ton own 2 good restaurant and 2 long swimming pool. Go there is sufficient to fill the day. Beach is also not too far with a nice walk close to the rice fields and the fisherman boats.

Interesting and different place to stay.........can be noisy in Plantation rooms because of the nature of their wooden structure.....considerate guests help......some are not!!
Staff friendly and helpful, having a rental car a big plus for seeing the island......
Attention to detail could be better.......replacing light bulbs.....poor quality, well worn towels....swimming pool water looked dirty........well worn pool furniture......

Room Tip: Plantation rooms can be noisy..........

I read quite many posts here on TripAdvisor and understood that people were complaining about cats, cleaning and standard in relation to what you pay. I got this place recommended from a couple of friends which was the reason why we tried it. Our friends stayed at BonTon but since that was fully booked over Xmas we stayed at the more luxury sister resort Temple Tree.

I'd say it wasn't completely worth the 1100rm we paid per night but other than that it was great! Colonial style and the country side feeling was exactly what we needed and we stayed in the room Colonial 3 which had two wooden bath tubes and much space to enjoy.

I don't fancy cats that much but I must say they didn't bother me at all. Cleanness was good but I understand those of you that have mentioned that in your reviews. But given that this isn't a fancy hotel we had absolutely no problem what so over - it's clean enough and with its country side/colonial style it kind of fits in.

Best thing was the quietness and the food at BonTon! Amazing food and they had pretty much had everything on the menu which also was better than many fine dining restaurants. Drinks were super as well.

All in all - if you expect a five star hotel and all that comes with a proper hotel – find somewhere else to stay. If you fancy something different with a genuine touch - stay here but make sure to get a better deal than we did even though it was Xmas. It would have been a five if the price would have been better.

First of all you simply can not complain about the cats at Temple Tree because in every e-mail you receive when booking it's very clear that they run an animal shelter & that there are animals in/around the grounds. I love cats & loved having them around....If you don't want them in your room, don't let them in! One thing to be aware of though, there was cat food outside our room on a few of the mornings so if you don't want them at your room perhaps ask that cat food isn't put outside your room specifically. If you are allergic to cats....don't go.
Prior to arrival:
Great email communication, very transparent & honest - quick to reply & helpful.
Room/Grounds:
The place itself is gorgeous and it is what is says on the website - a living museum. The grounds are well maintained. We stayed in one of the estate houses which was simply stunning. We have used some of the ideas in our own house. There is a lot of space and as we spent a lot of time relaxing in the room, this was ideal. Our room had air-con, a bath tub, two hot showers, a little garden, TV, sofas/chairs & a big bed as well as a dining table. Very bright rooms (natural light) & very tastefully decorated. The little things made a difference - complimentary mosquito spray & plug converter & batik sarongs/dressing gowns. Unfortunately we visited in monsoon so didn't use the pool.
Food:
Breakfast is served in the room at 7pm the night before and it is put in your fridge. At first I was really disappointed at the lack of hot breakfast however we have travelled Malaysia extensively and live here - it is almost impossible to find a good hot hotel breakfast which my boyfriend pointed out so on the flip side, we could wake up whenever we wanted, have a nice "posh" cup of coffee with the coffee maker (we did have to Google how to use it though!) & have breakfast together in our room - no need to get dressed, very relaxed- so in essence I came to love the concept.
We stayed in total for 5 nights & had dinner on 2 of the nights at Bon Ton (the main hotel) which was lovely - quite expensive in comparison to what you can find in Langkawi but then this is a top class restaurant with superb food so you can not complain about the price.
You definitely get what you pay for.
Service:
We had a late arrival, around midnight but were greeted warmly and given a glass of wine/beer to settle in, the staff stayed for a genuine chat & offered to let us check in the next day as it was already quite late. Great first impression. Everyone around the grounds are friendly, all of housekeeping greet you in passing, the restaurant staff at Bon Ton are fantastic & Amir (the manager) is lovely. Overall great service.
Location:
Not that close to the beach but we knew that before arrival. We rented a moped and then it was 5 minutes between the main strip & temple tree. On arrival we were given a map which was helpful as we drove round the whole island. There is parking at Temple Tree & Bon Ton.
Overall:
Great service & a lovely place to stay and relax. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for something special that has character & charm.

Room Tip: We loved the Estate rooms!

I've always been in love with old Malaysian architecture and I couldn't have experienced it better than at Temple Tree. All the houses on the property are beautifully unique and well maintained. Each room is different from the next with its own character and charm. That being said, old houses will have quite a bit wear and tear and we fell victim during a thunderstorm on our second night. Our window and wall started leaking with rainwater. After calling the management, we were temporarily put up in another room for the night and upgraded to a pimping suite the following day for the rest of our stay.

Breakfast is a scream with some of the best fresh beds I've had and their restaurant food is delicious as well. With not one but two natural water pools on the property, it is impossible to not feel absolute calmness and peace. Looking forward to return!
