Gorgeous property - I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a place that's different from run-of-the-mill hotels. Temple Tree has lots of character and charm, and it's perfect if you want to get away from busy hotels and beaches. The hotel is expensive for what you get, but it was a good experience. It's not crowded and is quite tranquil (in the day). We had the whole pool to ourselves on one of the afternoons, and the company of some lovely cats.

There are two pools but the one nearer the entrance looked more like a pond. It was dark and murky, and didn't look too welcoming. But it could just be colour of the concrete flooring.. I'm not sure.

It's a 5 minute drive to the nearest beach, by the way. The staff said it takes about 15 minutes to reach the beach by foot but I wouldn't try, as there isn't much of a pavement for you to walk on.

Here are the pros and cons to help you make a decision:

Pros:
- Rooms are spacious. We got a free upgrade to the Chinese Room 2, which faces the pool. Views were great, and we had a dining room, a living room and a balcony. There was even a mahjong set in the room.

- Staff were friendly and eager to help. They helped to arrange for car rental, and sat down with us to tell us about the attractions in Langkawi

- Breakfast was placed in the fridge the night before, so you can sleep in and wake up any time you want to. The bread and cake actually tasted quite good!

- Pineapple mint tea and coconut ice cream were great

Cons:
- The air con in our room didn't work very well and was really noisy.

- Had a hard time sleeping as the dogs in the neighbouring Bon Ton resort was barking all night. Then cats had a 2 hour cat-fight right in front of our room. Then we were kept awake by a very noisy group that decided to have a beer party at the pool on one night. (I guess there wouldn't be an issue if you're staying in the other rooms. The Chinese House was facing the pool, that's why)

- Their idea of a blanket is actually a really thin and worn-out bed sheet, which wasn't even big enough for two.

- The bed sheets did not feel very clean.. Mosquito net was filled with dead flies that were not cleared.

- Pillows were old and flat. In fact the entire bed felt a little wonky with spoilt springs and all.

- Towels were not changed during our 3-day stay.

- Wifi was non-existent.

- The TV doesn't work. I guess you could bring your own DVDs if you plan on staying in the room for the day.

- Lots of bugs, lizards and mosquitoes. I'm fine with the mosquitoes and bugs, but I have this insane fear of lizards. They were everywhere in my room... :'( I naively thought I wouldn't have to deal with them when I booked a stay here, but I was so wrong. Please avoid this place if you are afraid of lizards.

This is really a unique place. We loved all the cats wandering in and out of our room (our house, actually). The room was huge, loved the open bathroom. Food was good, a little pricey compared to restaurants at Pantai Cenang, but the service was excellent, again. I would definitely stay there again. Recommended for those in need of some peace, quiet and a touch of pampering.

away from where all the action is, and this is the whole point of staying in Temple Tree
best place to just forget it all and relax.
breakfast is prepared the evening earlier and is placed right in your fridge. so you can enjoy the breakfast in the comforts of your room.

Me and my partner stayed here for 4 nights in May. Wow it certainly lives up to its reputation. All I can say we will be back. Temple Tree certainly takes the prize..the individually restored colonial buildings, the staff and the views from the pool are amazing. If you love a resident cat in accommodation you will love it. This place is small, well run and close to most attractions. Langkawi is the place to chill, rent a car, catch some rays…and stay at Temple Tree. Thanks..

Room Tip: All beautiful….

it is far away from action, i.e. restaurants, beaches, shops, etc. Internet in the rooms does not work most of the time, there is no telephone in the room to communicate for an emergency or for a request to reception, and IT IS COMPLETELY UNATTENDED DURING THE WHOLE NIGHT, nobody remains in the property, if you have a problem you have to call emergency by yourself. STAFF is very helpful but ESPECIALLY MRS AYUNIE, an enchanting and lovely malayan woman that is very good in english speaking and very helpful with tips, recommendations and reservations.
