Whilst on our 4th visit to the Berjaya we went back to our favourite eating place, The Oriental Pearl.
It was just as good as ever, and we ended up eating there most nights of our 4 week visit. The menu is varied and suits most tastes and the staff helpful in explaining if you are unsure and happy to reccommend choices.
All the staff have always been most helpful and friendly, every night our table was laid for us in the preferred place, with all we needed. We became firm friends with them all especially the lovely lady who runs it most of the time. Nothing was ever too much trouble, the prices very good and the food delicious.
We always sit outside where you can look out over the green and white lights of the small boats fishing for squid or watch the distant multi-coloured lightning over the sea.
If you are lucky you may see Flying Squirrels gliding from palm tree to palm tree, or even the unique and rare Flying Lemurs, who seem to like this quiet and peaceful area.
The food is excellent- we particularly liked the Peking Duck, stir fired beef with mushrooms, the sea food and the Berjaya special sea food rice, but we didn't have a single meal we didn't enjoy!

We ate here with friends on Chinese New Year and were treated to a beautiful banquet for the equivalent of A$30 per person. Our waiter was very accommodating and provided insights into and explanations of the background and cultural significance of each course. He did all of this in a humorous and creative manner ensuring that we were all involved in the fun of serving each dish. This all took place over white linen table cloths outside on the patio overlooking the picturesque pool with the beach in the background. Overall a wonderful experience!

We stayed at the Berjaya for 8 nights so after a while, there wasn't much choice at the resort, so we ate there twice. The nicest dishes are the seafood vermicelli and the vegetables. The beef with mushrooms was also tender and tasty. These are worth ordering. Service was excellent. We ordered the crispy roast chicken which turned out a little cold and very hard (tasted like it wasn't just roasted) and the chef agreed to either let us change it or cancel the order, so we changed the order. Also, as I couldn't eat prawns, the waitress was nice in allowing me to change a noodle dish with prawns and squid to chicken and fish instead. I was glad they were very responsive to customers' requests. The view is also nice - seats near the wall to ceiling windows partially overlook the pool and sea. Prices are a little pricey though. Variety is also quite limited and I was surprised they offered hawker fare like sizzling late tofu (which was burnt and cooked with only chicken instead of chicken plus mushrooms and egg) instead of more classy dishes offered at such fine dining chinese restaurants.

The fish here was lovely (I think I had groupa, though am not 100% sure) and the rest of the meal was also delicious. If you're at the Berjaya you really should go, but if you're somewhere else on the island it's not a must-visit.

Good food and service - we were pleasantly surprised at what looked a little deserted from the outside - would recommend if you are at the Berjaya.
